杨澜的演讲译文
来苏格兰(做TED讲演)的前夜,我被邀请去上海做”中国达人秀“决赛的评委。在装有八万现场观众的演播厅里,在台上的表演嘉宾居然是(来自苏格兰的,因参加英国达人秀走红的)苏珊大妈(Susan Boyle)。我告诉她,“我明天就要启程去苏格兰。” 她唱得很动听,还对观众说了几句中文,她并没有说简单的”你好“或者”谢谢“,她说的是——“送你葱”。为什么?这句话其实来源于中国版的“苏珊大妈”——一位五十岁的以卖菜为生,却对西方歌剧有出奇爱好的上海中年妇女(蔡洪平)。这位中国的苏珊大妈并不懂英文,法语或意大利文,所以她将歌剧中的词汇都换做中文中的蔬菜名,并且演唱出来。在她口中,歌剧《图兰朵》的最后一句便是“Song Ni Cong”。当真正的英国苏珊大妈唱出这一句“中文的”《图兰朵》时,全场的八万观众也一起高声歌唱,场面的确有些滑稽。
我想Susan Boyle和这位上海的买菜农妇的确属于人群中的少数。她们是最不可能在演艺界成功的,而她们的勇气和才华让她们成功了,这个节目和舞台给予了她们一个实现个人梦想的机会。这样看来,与众不同好像没有那么难。从不同的方面审视,我们每个人都是不同的。但是我想,与众不同是一件好事,因为你代表了不一样的观点,你拥有了做改变的机会。我这一代中国人很幸运的目睹并且参与了中国在过去二三十年中经历的巨变。我记得1990年,当我刚大学毕业时,我申请了当时北京的第一家五星级酒店——长城喜来登酒店的销售部门的工作。这家酒店现在仍在北京。当我被一位日本籍经理面试了一个半小时之后,他问到,“杨小姐,你有什么想问我的吗?”,我屏住呼吸,问道“是的,你能告诉我,具体我需要销售些什么吗?” 当时的我,对五星级酒店的销售部门没有任何概念,事实上,那是我第一次进到一家五星级酒店。
我当时也在参加另一场“面试”,中国国家电视台的首次公开试镜,与我一起参与选拔的还有另外1000名大学女毕业生。节目制作人说,他们希望找到一位甜美,无辜(LOL),漂亮的新鲜面孔。轮到我的时候,我问道“为什么在电视屏幕上,女性总应该表现出甜美漂亮,甚至是服从性的一面?为什么她们不能有她们自己的想法和声音?“我觉得我的问题甚至有点冒犯到了他。但实际上,他们对我的表现印象深刻。我进入了第二轮选拔,第三轮,第四轮,直至最后的第七场选拔,我是唯一一个走到最后的试镜者。我从此走上了国家电视台黄金时段的荧幕。你可能不相信,但在当时,我所主持的电视节目是中国第一个,不让主持人念已经审核过的稿件的节目(掌声)。我每周需要面对两亿到三亿左右的电视观众。
几年以后,我决定来美国哥伦比亚大学继续深造,之后也开始运营自己的媒体公司,这也是我在职业生涯初始时所没有预料到的。我的公司做很多不同的业务,在过去这些年里,我访谈过一千多人。经常有年轻人对我说,“杨澜,你改变了我的人生”,我对此感到非常自豪。我也幸运的目睹了整个国家的转变:我参与了北京申奥和上海世博会。我看到中国在拥抱这个世界,而世界也进一步的接受中国。但有时我也在想,今天的年轻人的生活是什么样的?他们(与我们相比)有什么不同?他们将带给中国,甚至整个世界的未来一些怎样的变化? 我想通过社交媒体来谈一谈中国的年轻人们。首先,他们是谁,他们是什么样子?这是一位叫郭美美的女孩儿,20岁,年轻漂亮。她在中国版的Twitter上——新浪微博上,炫耀她所拥有的奢侈品,衣服,包和车。她甚至宣称她是中国红十字会的工作人员。她没有意识到她的行为触及了中国民众极为敏感的神经,这引发了一场全民大讨论,民众开始质疑红十字会的公信力。中国红十字会为了平息这场争议甚至举办了一场记者会来澄清,直至今日,对于”郭美美事件“的调查仍在继续。
时至今日,我们所知道的事实是,她谎报了她的头衔,可能是因为她的虚荣心,希望把自己和慈善机构联系起来。所有那些奢侈品都是她的男朋友给她买的,而那位”男朋友 “的确曾经是红十字会的工作人员。这解释起来很复杂,总之,公众对他们的解释仍然不满意,这仍
然是在风口浪尖的一件事。这件事体现出(中国社会)对长期不透明的政府机关的不信任,同时也表现出社交媒体(微博)巨大的社会影响力。
微博在2010年得到了爆炸性的增长,微博的访问用户增长了一倍,用户的访问时间是09年的三倍。新浪(Sina.com),一个最主要的微博平台,拥有 1.4亿的微博用户,而腾讯拥有两亿用户。(在中国)最有名的微博主——不是我——是一位电影明星,她拥有近九百五十万”粉丝“。接近80%的微博用户是年轻人,三十岁以下。因为传统媒体还在政府的强力控制之下,社交媒体提供了一个开放的平台进行了一些(民众观点的)分流。因为这样分流的渠道并不多,从这个平台上爆发出的能量往往非常强烈,有时候甚至过于强烈。
通过微博,我们可以更好的了解到中国的年轻一代。首先,他们中的大多数都出生在八零九零年代,在独生子女的生育政策的大背景下长大。因为偏好男孩的家庭会选择性的堕胎,现在(中国)的年轻男性的数量多过年轻女性三千万,这可能带来社会的不稳定(危险),但是我们知道,在这个全球化的社会中,他们可能可以去其他国家找女朋友。大多数人都拥有良好的教育。这一代中国人中的文盲率已经低于1%。在城市中,80%的孩子可以上大学,但他们将要面对的是一个,有接近7%的人口都是老年人的社会,这个数字在2030年会增长到15%。在这个国家,传统是让年轻人来从经济上和医疗上来支持老年人,这意味着,一对年轻的夫妻将需要支持四个平均年龄是73岁的老人。
所以对于年轻人而言,生活并不是容易。本科毕业生也不在是紧缺资源。在城市中,本科生的月起薪通常是400美元(2500人民币),而公寓的平均月租金却是500美元。所以他们的解决方式是合租——挤在有限的空间中以节省开支,他们叫自己”蚁族。“对于那些准备好结婚并希望购买一套公寓的中国年轻夫妇而言,他们发现他们必须要不间断的工作30到40年才可以负担得起一套公寓。对于同样的美国年轻夫妇而言,他们只需要五年时间。
在近两亿的涌入城市的农民工中,他们中的60%都是年轻人。他们发现自己被夹在了城市和农村中,大多数人不愿意回到农村,但他们在城市也找不到归属感。他们工作更长的时间却获得更少的薪水和社会福利。他们也更容易面临失业,受到通货膨胀,银行利率,人民币升值的影响,甚至美国和欧盟对于中国制造产品的抵制也会影响到他们。去年,在中国南方的一个制造工厂里,有十三位年轻的工人选择了结束自己的生命,一个接一个,像一场传染病。他们轻生的原因各有不同,但整个事件提醒了中国社会和政府,需要更多的关注这些在精神上和生理上都与外界脱节的年轻农民工人。
对于那些回到农村的年轻人,他们所经历的城市生活,所学到的知识,技巧和建立的社会网络,让他们通常更受欢迎。特别是在互联网的帮助下,他们更有可能获得工作,提升农村的农业水平和发展新的商业机会。在过去的一些年中,一些沿海的城镇甚至出现了劳动力短缺。这些图片展现出整体的社会背景。第一张图片是恩格斯系数(食品支出占总消费支出的比例),可以看到在过去的十年中,食物和生活必需品在家庭消费中的比例有所下降(37%),然后在过去的两年中,这项指数上升到39%,说明近两年中生活成本的攀升。基尼系数早已越过了危险的0.4,到达0.5——这甚至高过了美国——体现出极大的贫富差距,所以我们才看到整个社会的失衡。同时,“仇富心态”也开始在整个社会蔓延,任何与腐败和走后门相关的政府或商业丑闻都会引发社会危机和不稳定。
通过微博上很火的话题,我们可以看到年轻人的关注点。社会公正和政府的公信力是他们首要需求的。在过去的十年中,急速的城市化让民众读到太多强制私人住户拆迁的新闻,这引发了年轻一代的愤怒和不理解。有时候,被拆迁的住户以自杀和自焚的方式来抗议(强制拆迁行为)。当这些事件越来越常在互联网上被揭露出来,人们期待政府可以采取一些更积极的制止行动。
好消息是,今年早些时候,人民代表大会通过了一项关于房屋征用和拆迁的新法规,将征用和拆迁的权利从当地政府移交到了法庭。相同的,很多其他与公共安全相关的问题也在互联
网上被热烈讨论。我们听到有太多空气污染,水污染,有毒食品的报道。你甚至都想不到,我们还有假牛肉。人们用一种特殊的材料加入鸡肉和鱼肉中,然后以牛肉的价格进行出售。最近,人们对食用油也很担忧,大量的餐馆被发现在使用“地沟油“。所有这些事件引发了互联网上民众观点的大爆发。幸运的是,我们看到了政府正在更积极和更及时的对这些民众的质疑给予回应。
一方面,年轻人越来越积极的参与到公共事务中;另一方面,他们也在寻找或者说迷失与个人生活的价值和定位。中国很快就要超过美国,成为世界上第一大奢侈品消费国——这还不包括中国人在国外的消费。但你知道吗,超过半数中国的奢侈品消费者的(年)收入都低于两千美元。他们其实并不富裕,他们用那些奢侈品牌的服装和包体现身份和社会地位。这是一位在电视节目上公然表明,自己宁愿在宝马车里哭也不坐在自行车后笑的年轻女孩。当然,我们也有更多的年轻人,喜欢微笑,不管是在宝马还是在自行车上。
在下一幅图中,你看到的是现在非常流行的”裸婚“,这并不代表这“裸露出席婚礼”,这体现的是年轻人愿意接受结婚不买房,不买车,不买钻戒,甚至不办婚宴的这个现实,作为对纯朴的真爱的致敬。但同时,人们也在通过社交媒体做一些善事。这副图片里,这辆车上装有500只被”绑架“来,准备被送去屠宰的狗,这辆车被网友们发现后,人们开始通过微博关注事态的进展,并且通过捐钱,捐食物和做义工来试图拦截该车。在几个小时的周旋后,这500条狗获救并被放生。有更多的人在通过微博寻找丢失的孩子。一位父亲将他失散的儿子的照片发布到微博上,在几千条”转发“之后,他的儿子被找到,家庭的团聚也在微博上被报道出来。
“幸福(感)”是近两年中国的流行词汇。幸福感不仅仅与个人体验和价值观相关,更多的,它与环境息息相关。人们在思考:我们是否要牺牲环境来提升GDP?我们要怎样进行社会和政治体制的改革来应对经济的发展,保持稳定性和可持续性发展?同时,这个系统的自我修正能力是否足够强大,是否能够让生活在其中的人民接受在前进过程中的各种压力和困难?我想这些都是中国人民需要回答的问题,而中国的年轻一代将在改变这个国家的过程中也改变自己。

1863年11月19日,林肯在宾夕法尼亚州葛底斯堡的葛底斯堡国家公墓揭幕式中发表此次演说,哀悼在长达五个半月的葛底斯堡之役中阵亡的将士。林肯《葛底斯堡演讲》全文总共10个句子 ,267词 , 演说时间只有两分钟。本文同属表达型文本和呼唤型文本。文章没有任何多余的赘言 , 开门见山 , 立即转入正题 ; 结尾语气坚定 , 给听众留下感情奔放、情意深切、逻辑严密和生动有力的深刻印象。
二、译文比较分析
1、词汇选择
原文1 :Fourscore and seven years ago ... a new nation,conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that allmen are created equal.
张译 :七八十年以前,我们的先辈们在这个大路上创立了一个新国家,它孕育于自由之中,奉行一切人生来平等的原则。
许译 :七八十年前,我们的先辈们在这个大陆上建立了一个以自由为理想、以人人平等为宗旨的新国家。
文中conceived和dedicated两个动词的含义对于表现这个国家的自由平等有重要的作用。张分别使用“孕育”、“奉行”两个动词来体现 ;许则简化了这两个词,以“神似”的意译来取代了直译,“一个以自由为理想、以人人平等为宗旨的新国家”。笔者认为,翻译中所表达的原文含义比翻译中所采用的结构更为重要,许的简化翻译使得译文丢失了部分原文的内容。
原文2 :But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicated——we cannot consecrate——we cannot hallow——this ground.
张译 :但是,从更广泛的意义上来说,这块土地我们不能够奉献,我们不能够圣化,我们不能够神化。
许译 :但是,从更深刻的意义来说,我们不能使这一角战场成为圣地,我们不能使它流芳百世,我们不能使它永垂青史。
原文中这三个词dedicated, consecrate和hallow意思逐步深入递进,烘托了牺牲战士们的崇高性,表现出了庄重严肃的情感。dedicated有“奉献,投身于、致力于”的意思 ;consecrate有“为……祝圣,使圣化”的意思 ;hallow有“把……视为神圣,使成为神圣”的意思。因此,可以看出,张是根据原文,以直译的方式来处理这个句子。许则进行了加工,用四字成语显得更有气势,语气不断加深。
2、句式结构与逻辑
原文3 :It is rather for us……task remaining beforeus——that from these honored dead……he last full measureof devotion; that we……shall not have died in vain; that thenation shall... and that government of the people, by the people,for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
张译 :倒是我们应该在这里把自己奉献于仍然留在我们面前的伟大任务——以便使我们从这些光荣的死者身上汲取更多的奉献精神 , 来完成他们已经完全彻底为之献身的事业 ; 以便使我们在这里下定最大的决心 , 不让这些死者们白白牺牲 ;以便使国家在上帝福佑下得到自由的新生,并且使这个民有、民治、民享的政府永世长存。
许译 :我们更应该献身于我们面前的伟大任务 , 更应该不断向这些光荣牺牲的烈士学习,学习他们为事业鞠躬尽瘁、死而后已的献身精神,更应该在这里下定决心 , 一定不让这些烈士的鲜血白流 ;这个国家在上帝的保佑下 , 一定要得到自由和新生 , 这个民有、民治、民享的政府一定不能从地球上消失。
这段话句式结构复杂,4个that引导了4个task的同位语从句。从句式结构到具体的措辞,两位先生的翻译都有很大的不同。张用“以便使……以便使……以便使……并且使……”的句式结构对原句进行分解 ;而许采用的是“更应该……更应该……更应该……一定要……”句式结构。二者翻译均有排比句式的强烈情感色彩。而对于原文中出现的shall,张译为“让,使”,许译为“让,一定”。从许的措辞,如“鞠躬尽瘁、死而后已”“一定不能从地球上消失”等中,可以看出他的翻译相对情感色彩更为激烈,强硬 ;而张的翻译,如“白白牺牲”“永世长存”等,则较为缓和的情感,更能表现出对牺牲者的谦卑的态度。
三、总结
《葛底斯堡演讲》属于政治性的演讲词,两位先生的译作各有千秋。张培基的译文贴切原文意思,词句的翻译处理更加精致 ;许渊冲的译文多采用四字成语,气势磅礴。但是,笔者认为后者的翻译在细节处理,如遣词用句上过于意译。因此,笔者认为张培基的译文较好。
摘要:林肯的《葛底斯堡演讲》是历史上著名的演讲名篇,多年来我国许多人都曾尝试翻译此篇演讲词。本文将以张培基《英汉翻译教程》里刊载的演讲词翻译以及许渊冲《翻译通讯》里刊载的演讲词翻译为主,对这两篇译文进行浅略分析,谈谈笔者对这两篇译文的看法。

【关键词】最佳关联性;预期释义;语境效果
Sperber和Wilson对Grice的合作原则中的关联准则进行了发展与补充,提出关联理论。合作原则为我们的话语交际找到了一个解释的途径,而关联理论进一步发展了合作原则,并提出认知语境,强调认知主体在交际中的作用。根据关联性的两条原则——认知原则和交际原则,我们知道每一段话语都应为使话语或行为本身要具备最佳的关联性而做出努力。认知原则中提到:人类的认知倾向于同最大程度的关联性相吻合,因此,我认为,从某种程度上说,在一段话语中,为引起听者的注意及共鸣,说话人会争取表达与听话人共同感兴趣的话题,且这个话题也可作为整段谈话的引入。也就是说一段话语或演讲的开场白总是需要深入听者内心、能够吸引听者极大注意力的,而这就要求演讲者尽最大可能来寻求与听者最大程度的关联性。而这恰好体现了要使话语交际达到最佳关联所需要的两个条件:话语的语境效果足以引起听话人的注意;听话人为获得语境效果付出了努力。
以杨澜2011年在美国TED演讲中的开场白为话语对象,我们会发现这段开场白恰当地运用了话语的最佳关联性。根据关联性理论,认知效果越大、为进行加工处理而付出的努力越少,关联性就越强;当且仅当一个话语具备足够的关联,值得对它进行加工处理,并与说话人的能力及偏爱相一致,就是具有最大关联的话语。杨澜在演讲中的开场白是这样的:The night before I was heading for Scotland, I was invited to host the final of "China's Got Talent" show in Shanghai with the 80,000 live audiences in the stadium.Guess who was the performing guest?Susan Boyle. And I told her,"I'm going to Scotland the next day." She sang beautifully,and she even managed to say a few words in Chinese:送你葱......在这段5分钟左右的开场白中,听众的理解过程首先经历了“以最少的努力推算出认知效果”,也就是说,杨澜通过明示行为,提出那些对听众来说具有关联性的话语和信息。而在这段开场白中,杨澜为足够吸引观众的注意力、达到幽默的效果、同时引出她要演讲的话题,为找到与听者相关的事实或信息做出了一系列努力,第一点努力就是:她要掌握地道的英文表达。只有语言能够为听众所理解,或者进一步说,为让听众不至于误解她的内心意图。注意,前提必须是“地道的”,才能够避免言语表达方面的误差。她所做的第二点努力就是:了解英美文化。这体现出明示话语交际需要考虑社会文化因素。比如她提出见到了英国47岁的无业大妈苏珊?波伊儿,而苏珊?波伊儿正是在电视选秀节目《英国达人》的舞台上凭借一曲《我曾有梦》而一鸣惊人、从此变身成功人士的耀眼明星。《英国达人》这一节目在国际上尤其是欧美国家有巨大的影响力,而苏珊大妈这个人物更是被在座的美国听众所熟悉,通过这样一个著名又熟悉的人物来提高听众对杨澜演讲内容的关注度,以及对杨澜接下来要演讲内容的好奇心。第三点努力就是:通过掌握英语以及了解英美文化来找到与听众之间的共鸣,也就是挖掘到听众的最大兴趣点。由于人类只对那些具有足够关联性的现象给以关注、表达和处理,因此,要以最佳关联性为交际目标,就要使话语能够驱使听者去寻求更多的语境效果,达到话语理解。杨澜充分利用了与其能力及偏爱相一致的话题,用苏珊大妈同中国的苏珊大妈联系到一起,使听话人从短时记忆中调取相关信息(即上文提供的信息)来扩展自己的认知语境,同时又相当于她有效地将欧美文化与中国文化联系到一起,既展现出其智慧、博学,又有力地实现最佳关联。另外,用“送你葱”这部分的汉语表达,加深了听众对其作为中国人的身份信息。
当一个人讲话时,我们会注意到与她相关的事实或信息,并把话语诠释出我们的必然假设,杨澜的开场就充分利用了欧美热点话题与汉语内容等等,让听者从三个问题的角度理解她的话语,即:说者打算说什么?说者打算暗示什么内容?以及说者对其所说和暗含的内容有哪些预期的态度?她在引出主题的同时,运用恰当的内容达到幽默的语言效果,而这种幽默效果的成功实现也是源于说者对欧美人心理和生活状态的充分了解。并在开场的结束部分表达出说者对所讲开场话题的预期态度。
在关联理论中,语境是认知和理解一段话语的主要促进因素,选择处理话语最佳语境的过程就是寻求最佳关联的过程。而在杨澜这段话语开场白中,听众只要对于这段话语有普遍意义上的假设就可以达到有效认知和理解,这就体现出语境扩展中的“听话人在现有的认知语境中加入所需的百科知识来扩充自己的认知语境”的情况,也是听话人愿意为获得语境效果而在付出努力。比如在大部分美国听众心里,从《英国达人》节目里出名的苏珊大妈是值得大家用正面、积极的眼光看待的。她虽然年龄较大、甚至不具备成为明星的特质,但却经自己竭尽半生的努力为世人所知。她的一生是不同于普通常人的一生,是different。从这里可以体现出:第一,在话语释义中,我们无需假设说话者打算让我们继续进行对可能语境的无限扩展来获取更多的隐含意义;第二,在决定预期内容之前,我们不用比较一段话语可能出现的全部释义。杨澜的开场白中就让听者用最少的努力使她的话语达到worth listening to的效果。而且,杨澜的话语一出,听众就尽快地选择出了全部可能出现的释义中最切中杨澜话语目的的那一释义。话语中表达了用足够的语境效果让听众值得继续注意的内容,并使听者愿意主动地为获取语境效果而进行加工努力,即在一定程度上,实现了最佳关联。
作为演讲者的杨澜致力于寻找出一个兴趣点。另外,在明示交际中,进行交际者本身是期待她的听众能够识别出她的交际意图或目的的,信息处理或选择的目的是为了实现用最少的处理来重获最多的语境效果,只要话语的目标是为了吸引听众的注意,说者就会特意考虑与听者相关联的信息并尽力使听者用最少的处理便可认知和理解话语。包括语言、文化与生活等各种相关联的信息与知识都可用来促进有效的交流,尤其是这种目的在于传递思想或见解的TED演讲当中。 [科]

My generation has been very fortunate to witness and participate in the historic transformation of China that has made so many changes in the past 20, 30 years. I remember that in the year of 1990, when I was graduating from college, I was applying for a job in the sales department of the first five-star hotel in Beijing, Great Wall Sheraton — it’s still there. So after being interrogated by this Japanese manager for a half an hour,he finally said, “So, Miss Yang, do you have any questions to ask me?” I summoned my courage and poise and said, “Yes, but could you let me know, what actually do you sell?” I didn’t have a clue what a sales department was about in a five-star hotel. That was the first day I set my foot in a five-star hotel.
Around the same time, I was going through an audition —the first ever open audition by national television in China — with another thousand college girls. The producer told us they were looking for some sweet,innocent and beautiful fresh face. So when it was my turn, I stood up and said,“Why [do] women’s personalities on television always have to be beautiful,sweet, innocent and, you know, supportive? Why can’t they have their own ideas and their own voice?” I thought I kind of offended them. But actually, they were impressed by my words. And so I was in the second round of competition,and then the third and the fourth. After seven rounds of competition, I was the last one to survive it. So I was on a national television prime-time show. And believe it or not, that was the first show on Chinese television that allowed its hosts to speak out of their own minds without reading an approved script.(Applause) And my weekly audience at that time was between 200 to 300 million people.
Well after a few years, I decided to go to the U.S. and Columbia University to pursue my postgraduate studies, and then started my ownmedia company, which was unthought of during the years that I started mycareer. So we do a lot of things. I’ve interviewed more than a thousand peoplein the past. And sometimes I have young people approaching me say, “Lan, you changed my life,” and I feel proud of that. But then we are also so fortunate to witness the transformation of the whole country. I was in Beijing’s bidding for the Olympic Games. I was representing the Shanghai Expo. I saw China embracing the world and vice versa. But then sometimes I’m thinking, what are today’s young generation up to? How are they different, and what are the differences they are going to make to shape the future of China, or at large,the world?
So today I want to talk about young people through the platform of social media. First of all, who are they? [What] do they look like?Well this is a girl called Guo Meimei — 20 years old, beautiful. She showed offher expensive bags, clothes and car on her microblog, which is the Chinese version of Twitter. And she claimed to be the general manager of Red Cross at the Chamber of Commerce. She didn’t realize that she stepped on a sensitive nerve and aroused national questioning, almost a turmoil, against the credibility of Red Cross. The controversy was so heated that the Red Cross had to open a press conference to clarify it, and the investigation is going on.
So far, as of today, we know that she herself made up that title — probably because she feels proud to be associated with charity.All those expensive items were given to her as gifts by her boyfriend, who used to be a board member in a subdivision of Red Cross at Chamber of Commerce. It’s very complicated to explain. But anyway, the public still doesn’t buy it. It is still boiling. It shows us a general mistrust of government or government-backed institutions, which lacked transparency in the past. And also it showed us the power and the impact of social media as microblog.
Microblog boomed in the year of , with visitors doubled and time spent on it tripled. Sina.com, a major news portal, alone hasmore than 140 million microbloggers. On Tencent, 200 million. The most popular blogger — it’s not me — it’s a movie star, and she has more than 9.5 million followers, or fans. About 80 percent of those microbloggers are young people,under 30 years old. And because, as you know, the traditional media is still heavily controlled by the government, social media offers an opening to let thesteam out a little bit. But because you don’t have many other openings, theheat coming out of this opening is sometimes very strong, active and even violent.
So through microblogging, we are able to understand Chinese youth even better. So how are they different? First of all, most of them were born in the 80s and 90s, under the one-child policy. And because of selected abortion by families who favored boys to girls, now we have ended up with 30 million more young men than women. That could pose a potential danger to the society, but who knows; we’re in a globalized world, so they can look for girlfriends from other countries. Most of them have fairly good education.The illiteracy rate in China among this generation is under one percent. Incities, 80 percent of kids go to college. But they are facing an aging China with a population above 65 years old coming up with seven-point-some percent this year, and about to be 15 percent by the year of 2030. And you know we have the tradition that younger generations support the elders financially, and taking care of them when they’re sick. So it means young couples will have to support four parents who have a life expectancy of 73 years old.
So making a living is not that easy for young people.College graduates are not in short supply. In urban areas, college graduates find the starting salary is about 400 U.S. dollars a month, while the average rent is above $500. So what do they do? They have to share space — squeezed invery limited space to save money — and they call themselves “tribe of ants.”And for those who are ready to get married and buy their apartment, they figured out they have to work for 30 to 40 years to afford their firstapartment. That ratio in America would only cost a couple five years to earn,but in China it’s 30 to 40 years with the skyrocketing real estate price.
Among the 200 million migrant workers, 60 percent of them are young people. They find themselves sort of sandwiched between the urban areas and the rural areas. Most of them don’t want to go back to the countryside, but they don’t have the sense of belonging. They work for longer hours with less income, less social welfare. And they’re more vulnerable to joblosses, subject to inflation, tightening loans from banks, appreciation of the renminbi, or decline of demand from Europe or America for the products theyproduce. Last year, though, an appalling incident in a southern OEMmanufacturing compound in China: 13 young workers in their late teens and early 20s committed suicide, just one by one like causing a contagious disease. But they died because of all different personal reasons. But this whole incident aroused a huge outcry from society about the isolation, both physical and mental, ofthese migrant workers.
For those who do return back to the countryside, they find themselves very welcome locally, because with the knowledge, skills and networks they have learned in the cities, with the assistance of the Internet,they’re able to create more jobs, upgrade local agriculture and create newbusiness in the less developed market. So for the past few years, the coastal areas, they found themselves in a shortage of labor.
These diagrams show a more general social background. The first one is the Engels coefficient, which explains that the cost of dailynecessities has dropped its percentage all through the past decade, in terms offamily income, to about 37-some percent. But then in the last two years, it goes up again to 39 percent, indicating a rising living cost. The Gini coefficient has already passed the dangerous line of 0.4. Now it’s 0.5 — even worse than that in America — showing us the income inequality. And so you see this whole society getting frustrated about losing some of its mobility. And also, the bitterness and even resentment towards the rich and the powerful isquite widespread. So any accusations of corruption or backdoor dealings between authorities or business would arouse a social outcry or even unrest.
So through some of the hottest topics on microblogging,we can see what young people care most about. Social justice and governmentaccountability runs the first in what they demand. For the past decade or so, amassive urbanization and development have let us witness a lot of reports onthe forced demolition of private property. And it has aroused huge anger and frustration among our young generation. Sometimes people get killed, and sometimes people set themselves on fire to protest. So when these incidents are reported more and more frequently on the Internet, people cry for thegovernment to take actions to stop this.
So the good news is that earlier this year, the state council passed a new regulation on house requisition and demolition and passedthe right to order forced demolition from local governments to the court.Similarly, many other issues concerning public safety is a hot topic on the Internet. We heard about polluted air, polluted water, poisoned food. And guesswhat, we have faked beef. They have sorts of ingredients that you brush on apiece of chicken or fish, and it turns it to look like beef. And then lately,people are very concerned about cooking oil, because thousands of people have been found [refining] cooking oil from restaurant slop. So all these things have aroused a huge outcry from the Internet. And fortunately, we have seen the government responding more timely and also more frequently to the public concerns.
While young people seem to be very sure about their participation in public policy-making, but sometimes they’re a little bit lost in terms of what they want for their personal life. China is soon to pass the U.S. as the number one market for luxury brands — that’s not including the Chinese expenditures in Europe and elsewhere. But you know what, half of those consumers are earning a salary below 2,000 U.S. dollars. They’re not rich atall. They’re taking those bags and clothes as a sense of identity and social status. And this is a girl explicitly saying on a TV dating show that she would rather cry in a BMW than smile on a bicycle. But of course, we do have young people who would still prefer to smile, whether in a BMW or [on] a bicycle.
So in the next picture, you see a very popular phenomenon called “naked” wedding, or “naked” marriage. It does not mean they will wear nothing in the wedding, but it shows that these young couples are ready to get married without a house, without a car, without a diamond ring and without a wedding banquet, to show their commitment to true love. And also, people are doing good through social media. And the first picture showed us that a truck caging 500 homeless and kidnapped dogs for food processing was spotted andstopped on the highway with the whole country watching through microblogging.People were donating money, dog food and offering volunteer work to stop that truck. And after hours of negotiation, 500 dogs were rescued. And here also people are helping to find missing children. A father posted his son’s picture onto the Internet. After thousands of [unclear], the child was found, and we witnessed the reunion of the family through microblogging.
So happiness is the most popular word we have heardthrough the past two years. Happiness is not only related to personal experiences and personal values, but also, it’s about the environment. People are thinking about the following questions: Are we going to sacrifice our environment further to produce higher GDP? How are we going to perform our social and political reform to keep pace with economic growth, to keep sustainability and stability? And also, how capable is the system ofself-correctness to keep more people content with all sorts of friction goingon at the same time? I guess these are the questions people are going to answer. And our younger generation are going to transform this country while at the same time being transformed themselves.

Hi, everybody.This week, I delivered my State of the Union Address.Today, here’s the three-minute version.After four years of economic growth with eight million new private sector jobs, our unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been in more than five years.And with the economy speeding up, companies say they intend to hire more people this year.大家好。本周我发表了国情咨文演讲。今天,我要发表一个3分钟的简略版。经历了四年的、创造了八百万个就业机会的经济增长之后,我们的失业率降至5年来的最低。随着经济加速,很多公司都说要在今年多雇人。

虽然时常做“空中飞人”, 工作十分紧凑繁忙, 杨澜的脸上却没有留下岁月的痕迹, 她依旧保持着一个良好形象, 她是如何做到的?
健康饮食, 保证睡眠, 适当运动
杨澜说, 很多人都惊讶于我的胃口很大, 我能量的付出也很大, 所以我需要通过膳食来把这个能量补充回来。杨澜的体会是:好的睡眠, 健康营养丰富的膳食, 加上体育运动, 就可以使自己身体保持在良性循环上, 并不像大家想象的那样是不可支撑的。以她自己的经验, 如果不能支撑不可持续也不可能做这么多年, 要让身体调整到比较好的能量级别, 这是一个逐渐积累的过程。
杨澜表示, 现代女性应该多用一些科学知识来让自己变得更聪明, 做更聪明的选择, 而不是听到什么时髦就吃什么。她特别注重一日三餐, 平衡搭配, 她认为, 没有一种食物是万能的, 所以偏食是不好的, 她家的餐桌上有果蔬, 也有鱼肉、鸡肉这样脂肪含量不高的荤菜, 也吃红肉类的食物。
保证睡眠是非常重要的, 杨澜养成一个习惯———只要在车上或者在飞机上, 哪怕只有半个小时都可以熟睡, 可以睡得非常好;即使在一个陌生城市, 也可以睡得非常香。平时她每周做一次瑜伽, 打一次网球, 她说:“我觉得城市里很多女性缺少出汗的机会, 其实出汗是最好的排毒方式。”
热爱是最好的能量补充剂, 女人要学会适当示弱
“我还是非常幸运的, 有机会选择自己爱做的事情。”杨澜曾这样说。有记者问杨澜, 现在流行吃草本的东西, 是否您的包包里会有秘密小盒子, 里面装有很多神奇的补充剂?杨澜的回答是:“我的秘密就是我热爱我做的事情, 我做事情不仅是付出能量, 也是我获得能量的过程, 我认识我感兴趣的人, 做一期我爱的节目, 这个有助于我心灵的能量平衡。”好心态是她常葆青春的一个重要因素, 工作是她快乐的源泉。她说:“其实一个女人只要能找到自己喜欢的事情做, 哪怕是家庭主妇也好, 都会让她们快乐、年轻。”
杨澜还说:“我觉得没有一个人是一个孤岛, 也没有一个女人可以做顶天立地的树, 我们都是树林里的一棵树, 所以很重要的是找到自己的支持系统。比如你穿什么, 吃什么, 更重要的是你和周围, 特别是你爱的人的关系, 这一定是相互支撑的关系, 形成一个支持系统, 我们才有可能更健康, 或者走得更远。”杨澜表示, 作为一名职业女性, 不是什么都一定要自己扛着, 要知道什么时候喊“救命”, 不要担心这种示弱会让人觉得你不能干。这一代中国的职场女性, 处在一个面临机遇同时又面临巨大压力的时代, 因此一定要学会适当示弱, 给自己减压。
以前, 杨澜以为事业上的成功才是自己最大的追求, 但现在她觉得个人内心世界的安详和宁静、轻松与愉悦才是最重要的。明白了工作不是自己的全部, 杨澜开始注意平衡家庭和事业的关系。过去朋友向她推荐活动, 碍于面子, 她很难说出“不”, 于是身不由己一次次周旋于各种社交场所, 家庭和孩子往往被排除在日程之外。而现在日程表上的时间被严格地划分成两个部分, 一部分留给家庭、孩子以及运动锻炼, 一部分留给工作与社交。她说:“两部分时间要有明确的划分, 给家庭、运动锻炼的时间必须预留, 这是人的生命和生活中极为重要的部分。”
幸福等于正面情绪减去负面情绪
什么是幸福?杨澜在《幸福要回答》里说:“幸福不是从天上掉下来的, 而是从自己心里长出来的。幸福是一种能力, 你必须主动去寻找它。幸福力包括梦想的能力、感受的能力、创造的能力和分享的能力。”
杨澜曾经多次用“四大幸福公式”诠释自己对幸福的理解, 即:幸福=当下的快乐+未来的快乐;幸福=正面情绪-负面情绪;幸福=个人快乐×分享人群;幸福=个人能力÷参考预期。她认为, 在人们抱怨人生不公、工作不顺、感情不畅的时候, 试着用这个公式来一番加减乘除, 也许你会更容易快乐和幸福, 并能分享自己的幸福。
那女性该怎样排解负面情绪呢?杨澜说:“感觉有负面情绪也别压抑自己, 找人倾诉或者摔个盘子。感到压力大时去运动, 让压力随着汗水排泄出来;或者去做个SPA (水疗) 什么的。负面情绪会让肌肉紧张, 而通过肌肉的放松也可以让我们的情绪更正面。我们知道如何原谅别人, 劝解别人, 却对自己很严苛, 甚至把偶然失误归结为自己的无能。其实没什么比自我贬损更具破坏力了。所谓对自己好一点, 不只是美个容、喝杯奶茶什么的, 更是应在心理上对自己多宽容、多肯定。”
杨澜 我的珠宝人生 篇8
在公众视野下,杨澜是著名的节目主持人,但她选择急流勇退出国留学。几年后,她毅然回国,创办“阳光媒体”,变为商界精英。同时,她以卓越的人脉投身慈善,真心奉献。如今,“杨澜与珠宝”成为最新组合。惊讶之余,我们倒是觉得:杨澜的人生,便像这珠宝,闪烁着持久的光芒。
采访开始前,按惯例,我们与杨澜先“套近乎”,便说编辑部的80们后对她的畅销书《凭海临风》印象深刻。不想杨澜突然感慨起来,她说曾经有一个年纪与她相仿的观众说“自己是看着她的电视长大的”。言毕,大家都笑了。随即,杨澜抖出一个包袱:“不过令我欣慰的是,后来有个年纪比我大20岁的长辈也说自己关注我许多年。”
撇开说笑,其实从25岁到60岁,三代中国人的文化记忆中都有杨澜的身影。出道20年,她在主持界独一无二,但她又从来不止步于此。在公众视野中,杨澜每一次的急流勇退,每一回的华丽转身,都成为下一次成功的起点。
如今,作为LAN珠宝的掌门人,她的珠宝事业仅开始半年不到,客人就遍布世界,连查尔斯王子也是其中一员。当然同时,杨澜还有一个身份,那就是阳光媒体集团的主席。
其实杨澜的成功绝非“运气”二字。还记得采访前,开编辑会议时,就有同事提出,为什么杨澜每次都会在自己事业特别成功的时候去开拓另一个领域?
带着这个“终极疑问”,我们试图在采访时找到答案。
Career如钻石:每次切割都重要
热爱电视,不足为奇;喜欢手握话筒,在银幕前侃侃而谈,本身便是美事一桩。我们请杨澜写下她最近正在看的一本书,她思考良久,本想告诉我们文艺点的名称,但笑过又摇头,随即用英文写下书名,再周到地翻译成中文,看到书名我们不禁莞尔——《采访的技巧》。20年过去了,在杨澜的事业版图中,作为一个采访者的身份她依然看重,即使白天的日程排满,夜晚时分,她的台灯下还有“主持”的那块角落。
当造型师为杨澜浓妆淡抹、描眉涂唇时,她说,今年要为自己办一个私人派对。2010年正好是她入行电视20周年,《杨澜访谈录》10周年。杨澜打趣道;20和10合在一起刚巧是2010。于是,为了纪念这个特别的2010,她计划在今年办个派对,把那些疏于联系的老朋友、曾经帮过她的人们找来联络感情,互通有无。
这样看来,杨澜现在的人生,是否就如同这场派对——目有快乐?
答案非也。
杨澜坦言,现在自己最大的压力来自于“做老板”。她常常遭到总经理的“投诉”,投诉内容为杨澜,你太好说话了!此言一出,大伙皆笑。好说话的董事长也会遭投诉?!“是啊,”杨澜点头:“我一会儿听这个有道理,给他增加预算;一会儿听那个有道理,同意请假。最后,总经理不得不说‘打住,不能让他们来找你!’”
杨澜感慨,在商业方面,特别是企业管理和人事处理上她会感到焦虑和压力。用她自己的话来说,做管理者真有点“赶鸭子上架”的味道。
“那你会不会生气?”我们追问道。
“即使再生气,也不过是语速加快,他们都说那是和风细雨。”杨澜无奈地苦笑。
是的,作为老板,她必须直面困境。换装时,她面对镜子,看着镜中的自己,认真地说:“之前的10年,个人奋斗的色彩很浓,但今后10年的我要注重的是团队建设。”
从“珠宝”问答看杨澜:
《品位》:是什么触动您从事珠宝行业的?
杨澜:珠宝设计是我的兴趣爱好。以前出国的时候,我就非常喜欢手工艺品和珠宝设计,对于设计细节我会特别留意。还有就是遇到席琳·迪翁,我们性格相似,好奇心重,行动力都很强。
《品位》:在首饰设计方面与席琳·迪翁之间需要磨合吗?
杨澜:没有。她是一个对别人特别信任的人。她就说,“澜,你觉得好,我就觉得好。”她是一个很开朗的人,从不吝啬对人的赞美。我很喜欢她的这种性格。在团队管理上我花的心思则更多。
Family如白玉:时间越久越可贵
采访时,杨澜谈起最近颇为感兴趣的星座,她说自己的性格与白羊座挺相像,我们便在这个话题上聊开了……
杨澜是白羊座,属火,而吴征则为射手座,属风。于是,我们与她开玩笑:“你俩在一起那不就是‘风风火火’?”不想杨澜马上答道,“是啊,他一煽风我就着火!”看到杨澜连带手势说完这句话,在场的人都乐了。
面对自己的那句名言“女人干得好是基础,嫁得好是必要”,杨澜笑着补充道:“这句话现在又有了升级版,叫做‘女人干得好是工资,嫁得好是奖金’。”奖金可能会高过工资,但是有了工资肯定是踏实一点的。
说起她的“奖金”——先生吴征,杨澜的评价相当高:“吴征受西方教育,思路开阔,不受羁绊,有童心,特别可爱,点子特别多,属于很有想法的人。我呢,受中国传统教育影响,思想比较保守,为人相对中庸,不过很有行动力。”
看来,他俩个性虽有差别,却相处默契。
其实,家里四口人,杨澜的一双儿女在性格也各有相像。
说起女儿,杨澜一脸疼惜,她说女儿很像小时候的自己,懂事乖巧。做完功课会自己在家擦桌子,起床后把被子叠得很整齐。在学习上更是要求严格。不过,杨澜这个妈妈却能看出“问题”所在,她倒是经常让女儿放松,“偶尔调皮也没关系”。有一次,女儿3门功课考了299.5分,她倒说“99比100分好!”。这样的说法和价值观看似很奇特,却是因材施教。
至于儿子,则是个快乐的男孩,喜欢讲笑话。不管是看到的,还是自己编的笑话,杨澜都是他的第一个听众。“有时候他说了一个笑话,我没太明白。他就会说‘哦,妈妈,这个笑话太冷了,我再修改修改’。”
“那么孩子们给你送过什么礼物吗?”
杨澜想了想,说“礼物很多呀,他们会把自己写的作文送给我。我平时很忙,出差前会征询他们的意见。他们总说,妈妈你去忙吧,没关系。不过我在他们的礼物‘作文’里,还是发现了他们的真心意。”
面对这双懂事的儿女,杨澜非常欣慰。采访结束后,杨澜说要回家陪孩子们吃饭…
从“珠宝”问答,看杨澜:
《品位》:你觉得女人和珠宝的关系是怎样的?
杨澜:我在珠宝中得到感悟。所有的石头,无论翡翠还是钻石,在原生的状态下都是混沌的,需要你从大石头中把它剖开,找到,需要切割很多面,折射出光芒。这点和女人很像。时间不是我们的敌人,它帮女人折射出更美的光芒。
《品位》:私人收藏中你最喜欢哪款珠宝?
杨澜:我喜欢有故事的珠宝。我先生的叔婆是欧洲的贵族,后来和我先生的叔公相爱,终老在中国,很浪漫的爱情故事。后来这位叔婆临终前把她的一些首饰送给我先生说是给他将来的太太。其中有一件我特别喜欢。它是欧洲上世纪三四十年代在上流社会很受欢迎的款式,属于ARTDECO风格,它的材质呢,运用了中国的翡翠,再被镶嵌在黄金里。这种运用中国材质的首饰在欧洲流行过,后来被钻石替代了。
Duty如珍珠:光泽低调而持久
利用摄影师布光的间隙,与杨澜坐在一张白色的沙发上,聊起了她的慈善事业。
杨澜说起两年多前的一件往事时,我们发现,她的眼眶竟然有点湿润了。
2007年底,楊澜参与艺术教育公益项目“阳光下成长——与芭蕾共舞”,让一些行为有偏差、和父母沟通有问题的青少年参加半年的芭蕾舞培养,与中央芭蕾舞团共同演出,通过艺术教育重新塑造孩子的人格、纠正他们的行为。2008年元旦那天晚上,汇报演出很成功。演出结束后,几个男孩子在后台竟然每人送了杨澜一朵玫瑰花。那一刻,杨澜被深深地感动了,“那些孩子平时都是斜眼看人,对外部世界充满敌意,在以前。送玫瑰的举动根本不在他们的表达系统里。我觉得他们今天能送我玫瑰花,那以后对别人也能用同样的方式表达美好情感。”
每一年,杨澜都要进行好几个类似这样的公益项目。得到她帮助的人不计其数。汶川地震幸存下来的孩子、受资助考上大学的彝族孩子、有机会能受到艺术体育教育的民工孩子们,谁知道,他们会不会也在心中送给杨澜一朵美丽的玫瑰花呢?

《品位》:请用一种珠宝来形容您?
杨澜:也不能说形容吧。我个人很喜欢珍珠。它的光泽不耀眼却很持久,符合我们东方的审美。另外,它是需要打磨才能彰显出美丽(若有所思的)。打磨过程肯定会很痛,但打磨的结果我还是很满意的。(笑)
