Let us ask ourselves, what is education?About all things, what is our ideal of a thoroughly liberal education?

悬念式开场通过一系列悬念使听众对演讲主题产生好奇心, 这要比“Today I am going to talk about environmental pollution”, “My speech is about animal abuse”等直截了当的开场白更吸引听众。

例:It costs the United States more than$116 billion per year.I'm not talking about cocaine abuse-the problem is alcoholism.Today I want to show you how we can avoid this inhuman killer by abstaining from it.

例:My brother Jim and I grew up together and we were best friends.He taught me to play basketball;I gave him advice on girls he was dating;we went to California together one summer.Jim could be 22 today if he had not been killed last summer by a drunk driver.;

Abraham Lincoln once said:“You can fool all of people some of the time;you can even fool some of the people all of the time;but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.”We can no longer be fooled by the newspaper in this city.

A young Italian immigrant, at the close of the last century, wrote to his family:“Before I came here, they told me the streets were paved with gold. When I came here, I learned three things.First, the streets were not paved with gold.Second, the streets were not paved at all.Third, they expected me to pave them.”
