CCTV杯全国英语演讲大赛(牡丹江分赛区)在我院成功举行

2008年10月23日CCTV杯全国英语演讲大赛(牡丹江分赛区)在我院多功能厅拉开帷幕。此次大赛是由院团委举办,牡丹江医学院大学生广播站承办。

大赛晚六点正式开始,此次大赛的评委有我院外语部主任许丹凌老师、副主任姜克仁、孙宏老师,外语部胡波、常蕾、兰长江、关玉敏老师,还有我们的国外友人jim。如此强大的评委团使整场比赛的专业水平上升了一个新的高度。当晚到场的嘉宾有我院团委李海侠、张诚老师,院学生会主席助理张欣雨同学,记者站站长李继宇、广播站站长周昊,基础部学生会主席曾越、影像系学生会主席杨俊哲、临床系学生会副主席赵宏广、护理系学生会主席高彬,药学系学生会主席张贺,卫生经济管理学院学生会主席佟利民,麻醉系学生会主席耿瑞和检验系学生会主席李鹏。

大赛共13名选手参赛,共设选手演讲、评委提问、分角色为英文电影配音和评委打分四个环节。选手们演讲生动、慷慨激昂,表现出了极高的英语水品。最终,王苏、顾晶晶、付洋洋、王旭、徐冰、黄河六名同学获得优秀奖;隋冰、薛娇聪、刘露、王静荣获季军,杨光、程明正获亚军。比赛的冠军由刘畅同学以9.67分的高分获得。她也因此获得了到省城哈尔滨参加决赛的资格。

比赛于晚8点成功闭幕。本次比赛的冠军刘畅同学将代表牡丹江赛区参加黑龙江省级比赛。让我们预祝她能取得好成绩,为我院争光。

一、“外研社杯”全国英语演讲大赛命题特点对英语演讲课教学的启示

英语公众演讲作为一门实践课程,因局限于大班授课,理论讲解多、实践机会少;又局限于校园学习,社会公众演讲机会少,让英语公众演讲课的教学效果大打折扣,学生的演讲能力和素养的提高也止步不前。而每当笔者带领学生参加“外研社杯”比赛时,会明显感觉到大赛的要求,尤其是命题特点对英语公众演讲课有着重大的意义。我们发现“外研社杯”全国英语演讲大赛具有命题的即席性、思辨性和综合性三大特点。在此基础上深入研究,必将使课堂焕发出新的生机和活力,为课程教学内容的选择和呈现带来崭新的思维和创意。

(一)即席性特点的启示

大赛即席性的特点让学生产生一种疑问:既然比赛都是即兴而为,那是否就不需准备了呢?在实际培训过程中,许多指导老师也倾向于指导定题演讲为主,而对于即兴演讲、辩论等环节却不够重视,总觉得无法准备。Bytwerk也指出,虽然即兴演讲是日常交流中使用最频繁的演讲方式,但它却是公众演讲教科书中最被忽略的部分[2]。

即兴演讲亦是已备演讲。大赛的即席性特点恰恰反映了平时的准备性需求。定题演讲的准备性自然不言而喻,就即兴演讲而言,虽然每年的命题主题都不相同,但有一点是确定的,那就是话题的范围是相对稳定的,每年都会出现的话题包括大学校园生活、电脑网络科技、社会热点问题等。另外,话题的命题方式也呈现出一种稳定的趋势:在省赛区复赛多为短语与短句,在全国决赛则或为名人名言、或为录像片段,或为事件描述。回答问题虽是即兴的,但也是针对选手本人定题演讲和即兴演讲的内容而提出,至于总决赛的即兴演讲题目则在每年的大赛章程发布时就已同时公布了。

因此,在短短的几分钟准备时间之内(有些即兴问答环节甚至根本没有准备时间),选手需要对给出的题目进行现象描述和本质的分析,然后选取恰当的语言表现出来,可以看出,选手最需要做的是整理思绪,将题目与平时的积累联系,是已备知识的再呈现。如果平时没有积累,在赛场上即使有更多的准备时间那也是徒然。因此,大赛的即席性首先带给我们教学理念的更新,英语学习应是终身学习习惯的培养。

大赛的即席性也带给我们演讲课堂教学行动的更新,我们应以演讲的能力目标为单元进行训练。根据演讲的语言、结构、思路、论证材料等能力目标,在一个单元时间内(如1个月)给出同一演讲话题,要求学生使用不同的语言表达、不同的演讲结构、不同的演讲思路以及不同的论证材料来进行循环训练。通过这样的训练模式,学生对大量的演讲话题都能做到有话可说,言之有理,言之有据,观点多元。在课程的考试评价环节,我们也应考核学生的即兴演讲能力,而不仅仅是已备演讲能力。即兴演讲能力的考核也可以通过已备演讲来实现。因此,在演讲课程考核环节可以采用以下步骤:

Step1已备演讲(2分钟),考核前1-2周,老师提前给3-5个已备演讲话题让学生准备;考核时让学生从中临场抽取一个话题进行已备演讲。

Step2即兴问答(2分钟),老师临场针对已备演讲的内容提问,学生即兴回答;如果有必要,老师可以进一步提问。

Step3总结陈述(1分钟),学生对于已备演讲及即兴问答部分的表现予以总结陈述。

(二)思辨性特点的启示

黄源深早在1998年也指出了外语师生的思辨缺席问题[3]。文秋芳等也指出外方评委通常以听懂意义为前提来判断选手的演讲能力,而中方评委对选手所犯的个别低级语法错误给予过多的关注,有以点带面的倾向。同时指出中国教师对思想内容的交流重视不够[4]。近年来,虽然外语课堂对于思辨能力的培养有了一些关注,但重视度仍远远不够,尤其是对作为战略性沟通的公众演讲来说,thinkwhile we speak应是一种常态。这就给我们的演讲教学提出了一个非常重要的问题:我们的演讲教学如何体现思辨性的特点?首先,我们应该培养学生的思辨意识与思辨习惯。学生不会思辨,首先是因为他们不知何为思辨,为何要思辨,思辨与演讲有何关系?因此,“思辨意识是第一步的,或先于思辨技能发展的。”[5]其次,我们要提供学生思辨训练的机会。一般情况下,英语公众演讲表现为演讲者在说,听众被动地听,最多加上一些互动反馈(feedback)与交流。而在笔者的演讲课堂则采用了以下步骤[5]:

Step1演讲前的准备环节,包括收集材料、整理归类、识别选择等分析过程;

Step2演讲稿的写作环节,包括提出假设、阐述观点、步步论证等推理过程;

Step3演讲的进行环节,包括以上分析与推理的应用与实现过程;

Step4听众的反馈环节,包括理解记忆、提问质疑、归纳总结、评价反思过程;

Step5演讲者的反思环节,包括改进与再创造过程。

以上五大步骤步步思辨,环环相扣,尤其是第4步听众的提问、评价与总结环节更是让学生充当的不仅仅只是一名听众,更是参与者、评价者、批判者。这也是有学者把critical thinking skills译为“批判性思维”的原因所在。正如白岩松坦言:“回想我的大学时代,有许多讲座开拓了视野,不一定是接受演讲者的观点,而是因为反对,才有了收获。”[6]

(三)综合性特点的启示

英语演讲比赛不仅仅只是语言的比拼,更是综合实力的竞争。王守仁教授,曾指导刘欣参加“21世纪杯”全国大学生英语演讲比赛,坦言:“对参赛学生来说,全国大学生英语演讲比赛是一种全方位的考验,要求具备出色的英语语言表达能力、机智灵活的应变能力、清晰的思辨力以及良好的心理素质。”[7]

针对外研社杯的综合性命题特点,我们的演讲教学应实现“两多”:

一是多读。读经典,看时尚。读经典,宿玉荣等人在《英语演讲比赛参赛指南》一书中就推荐了罗素的《西方哲学史》、汉默顿的《世上最伟大的思想精华》、林语堂的《孔子的智慧》等中外经典著作[8]。看时尚,关心关注生活中、社会上发生的时尚热点与焦点。立足传统,放眼国际。在阅读中,既要阅读China Daily,21st century等国内主流英文媒体,也要涉猎Times,Economist等西方英文报刊杂志。

二是多讲。针对大赛的综合性特点,我们应以演讲的话题为单元进行系统训练。在一个单元时间内(如1个月)给出不同演讲话题,话题的主题既要关注中国传统文化的传承,也要具备国际化的视野。既要勇于思考、又要善于思考,逐步形成良好的观点关注意识,并以恰当的语言予以表现。

由中央电视台与外语教学与研究出版社联合主办的“CCTV杯”全国英语演讲大赛,如今已经成功举办了12届。这项面对中国大学生的高水平赛事,掀起了学习英语的热潮,大学生们学得如痴如醉,如歌如泣。大赛选拔出的代表全国大学生英语演讲最高水平的选手不但获得了相关奖杯及证书等荣誉,还代表中国参加了“ESU Cultural Seminar”, “世界大专英语辩论赛”,“澳亚大专英语辩论赛”和“亚洲大专英语辩论赛”等国际比赛,在各国精英云集的赛场上展现中国当代大学生的风采。然而,这些精英们却只是千万英语学习者中的少数,大多数的英语学习者徘徊在英语的边缘,举步维艰,处于一种彷徨、忧郁、等待的状态中。他们花费了大学四年接近二分之一的课余时间来对付英语的各种考试,结果仅仅是把英语完成了笔治、目治或者耳治的语言,少数学生能把英语完成口治的语言,但是离演说的高级口治还有不小的距离。

1.演讲的重要性

演讲是沟通的升华,是交流的最高境界,它是二十一世纪人才必备的技能之一。随着社会、经济、文化等方面交流的日益密切,沟通成为了发展的关键,而演讲作为一种强有力的沟通手段,势必贯穿在人类的各种活动中,强有力地推动整个人类社会的发展。演讲在我们的生活中无处不在,如今,越来越多的中外机构在招聘员工时,已不再局限于对履历档案和文凭证书的审查,各种方式的交谈、面试和答辩已成为必不可少的环节,甚至是最为重要的考察环节。不录用口头表达能力差、逻辑思维混乱的人似乎已是许多职场老板们的共识,包括演讲能力在内的交际能力已被公认是招聘员工时最重要的素质。(任文,2007:66)对于多数人来说,用母语来演讲已经是件不容易的事情,用外语在公共场合发表意见和抒发感情更是难上加难。对于当今大学生来说,尤其是英语专业的学生们,更应该长期培养自己的演讲技能,因为他们将来的工作绝大多数是倚重“舌头”功夫的交流型职业,而良好的口头表达能力和出色的英语演讲技能是他们工作顺利、事业成功的重要因素。

2.大学英语教学所面临的问题

大学英语是我国高等教育中一门重要的基础课程。自《大学英语教学大纲》颁布以来,我国的大学英语教学取得了很大的进步,主要表现在英语教学改革引起重视、教学设施的到了改善。并且,随着中国与世界的接轨,社会对人才的外语水平要求越来越迫切;大学生越来越重视英语学习,渴望学好英语。但是,由于目前的大学英语在课程设置、教学资源配备、学时以及学习氛围等方面都存在很大的不足。另外,教学内容及其词汇用法与说英语国家存在差距,导致学生在阅读英语原版报刊时存在理解障碍;其次,大多数学生都是死记硬背单词,割裂了语篇内容与表达方式的关系。最后,课堂上,大多数在英语的口语应用上非常欠缺,都不愿开口表达思想,好班的学生稍微活跃点,差班的学生则情况非常糟糕。

目前,随着四、六级考试在大学毕业生找工作的过程中发挥了越来越重要的角色,大学英语教学不但没有淡化应试教学的色彩,反而朝着“考研是目标,四、六级是关键,60分是硬道理”的方向发展的趋势,最终导致了大学生既不能听也不能说。正如李岚清副总理指出的那样:“很多学生及经过8年或12年的外语学习,然而大多数学生都不能较熟练地阅读外文书籍,尤其是听不懂讲不出,难以与外国人直接交流。

3.开设英语演讲课的价值

世界一流大学之所以一流,不仅仅是某学科专业的一流教学研究,最根本的是一流的才智、创意、人格的通识教育(general education)。演讲正是通识教育中颇能体现学生综合素质的经典平台。在这个平台上,演讲这个龙头项目将会拉动相关学科的连锁性成长,因为,演说的语言只是内涵的语音流走形式,内涵当然是演说者的文化、知识、修辞技巧、思维境界、价值观念、心理内驱、人格魅力的有机整合。演说能力的美丑优劣在相当程度上与这些内涵相适应。因此,演讲及其教学的成功将是通识教育成功的重要元素。英语演讲当然如此,它与其他语言的演讲仅仅只是语种外壳的差异。

4.英语演讲大赛对大学英语教学的启示

欧美许多大学的语文系和外国语文系以及与语言有关的系,都开设演讲课(public speaking )。然而,我国大学英语专业至今却未开设此门课程,或者少数学校也只是将英语演讲作为选修课。英语演讲的基础教学和研究非常的边缘化,与之相关的修辞、文化、才智、创意、、思维、人格的教学与研究也随之边缘化。边缘化的结果是,不仅学生的英语演说能力普遍缺乏,甚至教师中有英语演说教学和研究能力的人才也寥寥无几,如果再求有实际演说才能和魅力的可现场示范的师资,那可说是寥若晨星了。

因此,我国各高校的大学英语教学都应该把英语演讲课纳入其教学计划中,并且在英语演讲课的授课过程中,应特别强调与始终贯穿高端思维的教学与研究,如批判性思维、创造性思维、非线性思维、断点思维。因为,演讲语言仅仅是思维与文化价值的语音流走形式,没有卓越的独特思维,就不能有优秀的演讲。与此同时,批判性思维、创造性思维等也有利于提高学生在英语的“说”与“听”方面的能力,使其口头表达内容不再空洞,思想不再肤浅,能够进行较深层次的观点陈述,而且在倾听他人演讲时也不再被动接受、不假思索、不加辨析。其最终结果能提高大学英语教学的效果,大学生在英语方面将不再是说也说不出,听也听不懂。

一、活动目的:

在这激情四溢的夏日,凉爽的农大再次迎来了朝气蓬勃、才华横溢的大一学子。为了让新老学生的大学生活多姿多彩,给大家一个展示自我,施展才华的平台;同时履行我社一切为了同学,为了同学的一切的宗旨,鼓励同学们参与社团活动,加深同学们对社团的了解,弘扬社团文化,扩大我社影响;以及舞同学们关注身边小事,国家大事,开拓视野,提高英语口语水平,成为新世纪新人才,故我社特为国土学院全体新生举办一场英语演讲大赛。

二、活动内容:

对象:国土院全体学生(比赛决出前三名,第一名代表国土院参加校的CCTV英语演讲比赛)

赛制要求:

1、自我介绍(英语,限时1~2分钟,不足一分钟扣分);

2、根据主题发表自己的演讲,演讲限时三分钟,最好脱稿;

3、由评委即兴提问,选手给予回答。比赛前期工作:

1、负责人联系各班班长或辅导员在各班作活动宣传,并给每班发三张宣传单和两张报名表,并说明截止日期,安

排人员收表;

2、办公室负责统计编排名单,并短信通知比赛时间;

3、英语部负责邀请评委(5名左右,必须大三以上,老师最好)和主持人

4、选全部负责设计和张贴海报,注意时效性(说明时间);

5、外联部负责拉赞助(礼品、纸、笔)和横幅,横幅注意挂在显眼处;

6、理事会负责租借场地,准备好比赛奖状,证书并盖好印章,检查设施、设备是否完好,并且保证足够的桌椅。

比赛期间工作:

1、各个部门安排人员布置场地,赛前试用相关音频设备(如话筒);

2、策划部协助理事会维持赛场秩序,把好进出口防止比赛过程中人员进出影响选手比赛;

3、办公室负责核对参赛人员名单;

4、宣传部和外联部负责安排评委及参赛选手入座,并同志下一个选手做好准备;

5、英语部、日语部、韩语部负责将演讲材料分发至评委手中,以及矿泉水、笔、纸。

比赛后期工作:

1、帮助人员安全离开赛场;

2、全体工作人员留下清理赛场,检查设施;

3、比赛结果统计后交给社长。

三、活动步骤:

1、主持人度开场白并逐一介绍评委和嘉宾;

2、嘉宾致词,主持人宣布比赛开始;

3、选手逐一演讲,评委打分;

4、每个五名选手演讲后,主持人宣布前五名选手的成绩,评委作必要点评;

5、比赛后评委做最后的综合点评,主持人现场公布比赛结果,嘉宾颁奖;

6、主持人宣布比赛结束。

四、活动形式:

比赛选手先进行自我介绍,再根据主题发表自己的演讲,演讲限时三分钟,最好脱稿,最后由评委即兴提问,选手给予回答。评委根据选手的演讲内容、台风等方面进行打分,求平均分,以分数高者为胜。

五、预期效果:

通过此次CCTV英语演讲大赛,能够调动同学们学习英语的积极性,同时也可以让同学们对英语引起重视,让他们有机会锻炼自己,在舞台上表现自己,展现自我!
