1 英语B级辅导要侧重语法基础
从B级历年考试的第二部分就可以看出, 语法还是B级考试中的一个重要组成部分。而且具体分析, 其中有许多重复的语法点, 从虚拟语气到倒装句, 从时态到主谓一致, 一些基本的语法知识几乎涵盖其中。因此在进行B级辅导时, 可以把涉及到语法点串讲一遍, 这样也有利于学生基本语法知识的巩固。在串讲的同时, 做好相应的练习。只有把理论应用到实际当中, 才能真正活学活用。在做题中遇到问题, 也可以重点突破。同时, 这些语法点不是单独的、孤立的, 而是相互联系的。例如:被动语态在实际练习题中, 与时态通常是密不可分的;又如连词与从句也是相辅相成的。所以要教导学生全面的看题, 理解问题。在辅导过程中, 可以利用历年真题, 让学生自己为选择题分类, 到底是属于哪一个语法项目, 这样既锻炼了他们独立思考的能力, 也提高了做题的准确率。
2 英语B级辅导要重视实际应用
英语B级考试与四级考试相比, 更具有实用性。这点可以从它的听力部分和写作部分体现出来。听力的第一项是回答问题, 其中大部分是日常交际用语, 这与我们日常生活密切相关, 也是英语口语中最基本、最实用的知识, 例如:问路, 吃饭, 住宿等。所以在做B级听力辅导时, 要从日常用语着手。这点可以在平时加强日常用语的训练, 给学生设计一些情景对话, 给出相关的日常词汇和句型, 让学生通过模拟练习加深印象。当然同时也多进行听力练习, 巩固成果。在写作上, B级考试与其他考试不同, 更注重实用文体的写作, 比如通知、书信、电话留言等等。所以在B级辅导中要注重这些实用文体的训练。要让学生了解这些文体的基本格式, 还有基本内容, 可以通过一些模拟练习来强化学生对于这些文体的应用。
3 要有一些实际的技巧性练习
3.1 语法训练
在进行语法辅导时, 也可以采用一些新的方法, 改变以教师为中心学生被动接受的局面。可以采取综合训练式语法学习法。教师根据所教语法项目的交际功能去创设运用这个语法项目的情景, 将语法教学与听说读写的活动结合起来, 将语法知识的学习与综合技能训练结合起来。要求学生第一步先采用双人活动形式共同创设一小段对话, 其中必须含有相应语法形式的句子;第二步:在四人或者六人小组中轮流表演他们的小对话;第三步:每个小组推选其中最好的双人组合并帮助他们修改充实其对话, 准备在全班呈现;第四步:教师请出一个双人组合代表在全班表演他们的对话, 同时要求各小组记录他们听到的含有语法形式的句子;第五步:看哪个小组记录的句子最多最准确并能快速重复出来, 最后由教师按小组为评价单位, 给以讲评鼓励 (可以用给分形式纳入形成性评价) 。这个活动全面调动全体学生参与, 将语法教学与激发兴趣、形成性评价和听说读写技能培养融会在一起, 较好地体现了新的语法教学观。
还可以采用任务式语法学习法。这里所讲的任务比较起一般活动, 应该是更接近实际生活, 更接近真实交际, 也可以理解为一定要让学生去做事、要求更高一些的活动。在语法教学中, 教师应该尽可能去设计一些任务, 让学生通过完成任务, 在运用中学习掌握语言形式、语言规则。或者采用探究交互式语法学习法。以小组学习方式, 根据教材的内容, 依据教师的指引, 围绕某一个语法项目, 学生自己去查阅资料, 自己去收集、筛选、分析、处理、运用各种信息;再通过学生小组成员之间的互动交流、互相启发、互相学习, 降低学生作为被动学习者的焦虑感, 真正使学生自主学习, 成为学习的主人。由学生充当老师, 课堂气氛别具一番风味, 收到较好的学习效果。
佳句格言记忆法也能起到很好的作用。我们仍可沿用传统语法教学中一种好的记忆语言形式的方法, 就是精选一些包含某些语法结构的典型句子, 让学生通过记忆和运用这些句子而起到既能背诵一些精典句子, 又能熟悉运用某项语法形式的作用, 达到一箭双雕、双重获益的效果。

3.2 快速阅读技巧
虽然B级中阅读的比例远不如四级, 但是也是考试中的一个重要部分。其中有两篇阅读属于快速阅读, 可以让学生学习一些快速阅读的技巧, 提高阅读速度和准确率。既然是快速阅读, 速度很重要。那么如何提高阅读速度, 首先要纠正阅读中的不良习惯, 比如说用手指点读或动嘴读。这些都会降低阅读的速度, 改掉这些不良习惯学生的阅读速度就会有所提高。另外一点也很重要, 那就是要学会搜索重点词汇。有时候一篇快速阅读篇幅也不短, 如果全文通读也是会浪费一定的时间, 这时可以从问题当中寻找重点词汇, 快速在文章中搜索, 搜索到相应词汇后, 再阅读周边段落, 这样能有效缩短阅读时间, 同时保证正确率。在训练时, 可以给学生做计时练习, 开始可以5分钟一篇, 然后可以再相应缩短一些时间。事实证明, 通过练习, 这项的得分率能大大提高。
3.3 听力训练方法
首先听力的基础还是单词量和语法, 所以单词量的积累很重要。单词的记忆对于许多学生来说都是个难题, 死记硬背完之后, 忘的更快。其实可以采用一些方法, 比如联想记忆法, bed (b、d代表前后床头) 。还有通过发音记忆, 英语中相当一部分词的读音决定了词形, 读音决定了词义, 比如炸弹的爆炸声而造出bomb炸弹。构词记忆法利用英语词汇的构词规律, 内在结构记忆单词是一种理性地使自己词汇量膨胀起来的方法。英语单词是由词素构成的, 词素分为自由词素和粘附词素。记忆单词主要是记自由词素, 因为有些自由词素可以充当词根, 词根加词缀构成许多派生词。但最重要的还是要有记忆的环境, 在句子文章中记忆。单词的问题解决了, 听力就容易了大半。最简单的听力训练方法就是跟读, 听一句跟读一句, 连发音到语调, 完全模仿, 一遍不行可以反复放, 然后反复跟读。时间久了, 就会有一个阶段性的提高。然后可以听一些小短篇, 比如说小故事, 适当也可以记些笔记, 比如说关键的时间、地点等, 加深印象和理解。当然提高听力不是一时之功, 要有坚持的精神。老师所能做的只是技巧上的一些点拨, 关键还要靠学生自身的努力。
B级考试与四级不同, 四级考察范围较广泛与教材结合不是很紧密, B级与高职的课本是有一定契合度的, 比如语法知识点上, 应用写作上, 还有情景会话上。所以教师在平时的授课中就要注重知识的渗透与结合, 不要等到快考试时再突击训练与复习。这样才能达到事半功倍的效果。

高等学校英语应用能力考试的目的是考查考生对语言知识、语言技能以及使用英语处理有关涉外业务的基本能力。这是应用性的考试,考试中的许多观点和实用性与社会生活是保持一致的。对听力部分的要求,主要考查考生听清问题并作出恰当回答的能力、听清对话内容并回答问题的能力和听写词语的能力。听力理解占总分的15%,测试时间为15分钟。以日常交际和简单的业务交际内容为主。考试内容分三部分:A问答题或完成对话。共5个小题,有一个英语问句或一两句短句(约6到14个单词),然后选出最适合的选项,完成场景中的短小交际。B对话理解题。包括五组简短的对话(20个单词左右),对话之后提出问题,选出最恰当的答案。C短文空格听写题。有一段约100个单词左右的语段,其中有五个单词或词组空着,要求将语段填写完整。
一、A部分题型特点及解题技巧
从题目的内容看,A部分包含询问时间、意见或建议,询问健康、学习、工作等情况,还包括请求帮助以及日常生活中的吃饭、购物、打电话等各种场景的内容。题目的结构使用最多的是疑问句。从语法结构来看可以分为四种:一般疑问句、特殊疑问句、选择疑问句、反意疑问句。在一般疑问句中,多以助动词、情态动词、动词be或have开始,通常用yes或no回答,语调一般用升调。特殊疑问句是用疑问词开始提问的问句。常用的疑问代词有who,whom,whose,what,which 等,疑问副词有where,when,why,how等,语调一般用降调。选择疑问句是对问题提出两个或两个以上的答案供说话人选择的一种句式。前一部分用升调,后一部分用降调,回答时不用yes或no。反意疑问句表示讲话人对自己提出的看法和情况比较有把握,或者他问话的目的只是希望对方来赞同或证实所陈述的事情。前部分总用降调,后部分多用升调。
从历年考试题目可以看出,这类题目以疑问句,尤其是特殊疑问句和一般疑问句出现的频率较高。做题时,要听清楚是什么类型的句子,如果是陈述句,就要分析它是属于哪一方面的,是祝贺、道别、感激还是其他。如果是疑问句,首先可以从语调上判断出上述四种疑问句的类型。如果是一般疑问句,首先应该观察有没有适合yes或no格式的选项,也就是yes或no是答案的可能最大。

此题是测试一般疑问句的典型句型,考查由may引导的疑问句的理解和应答能力。“May I speak to Helen ?” 意思是“我可以和海伦通电话吗?”问题是由may引导的一般疑问句,要求我们回答行不行,提供的四个选项中A项(可以,请讲)符合原题要求,所以选A。仔细分析句意,斟酌选项。如果是特殊疑问句,就不能选择yes或no,而是要听清楚疑问词,如,当疑问词是when的时候,不能以一个地名作答;当疑问词是why的时候,不能以时间作答。其次,可以通过抓关键词的方式选择作答。如,当录音提到“Thank youfor...”时,肯定要寻找一个表示“不用谢,荣幸之至”等比较客气的答复;当录音提供的是选择疑问句,如“Which would you prefer,tea or coffer?”绝大多数回答选择tea或coffer,除非特殊说道“两者都不要”的情况,但一般不会出现这种回答。
二、B部分题型特点及解题技巧
这部分测试对简短英语对话的理解能力。对话和问题都播放两遍。就内容而言,本部分主要包括日常生活、工作、交际中的基本对话,如,谈论天气、学习、工作、健康、时间、交换个人意见、宾馆对话、商业对话等。对话之后的问题中,有的是确认对话中某个信息,有的是针对对话内容延展部分的提问,旨在测试考试的综合信息、推理以及应变的能力,如,两个人各说出一句话,要求判断这两个人的关系;两个人在谈一件事,要求说出其中一个人的言下之意,看考生是否懂得用另一种方式表述对话中相应的内容。
从历年的考题中可以看出,以what开头提问的题目最常见,这种题目主要测试学生对对话中“是什么”的基本情况的理解,同时还要测试考生能否正确判断对话的情景、内容、人物关系等。对于这类题目,解题时不仅要抓住关键词,还要注意对话中提到的具体信息。在很多情况下,问题问到的都是一些细节。
如,2011年12月真题A. When to catch the train. B. Where to buy the ticket. C. How to reach the airport. D. Which bus stop to get off.

解析:本题属于细节题。本题四个选项均为W-question。选项A “何时赶火车” ;选项B“哪里买票”;选项C“如何到飞机场” ;选项D“哪个车站下车” 。因此,听的重点就是问句信息的内容。男士回答:Could you tell me how to get to the airport?所以正确答案为C。此外,抓关键词,只要听到的内容在选项里,就可以判断这个选项很可能就是正确的选项。
三、C部分题型特点及解题技巧
这部分是一篇小短文,其中有五个单词或词组由空格代替,要求听过三遍后,在空格中填入恰当的单词或词组。做这部分题目时,首先要了解短文的大概意思,注意需要填入的词或词组所在句子的内容;接下来,还要注意全文所用的主要时态;此外,还要判断所缺的部分在句子中充当什么成分,所填的词或短语是什么词性。如果填的是动词,那一定要注意它前面所用名词的数、动词本身的时态和语态。如果填的是名词,就要搞清楚是可数名词还是不可数名词、单复数,如果填的是形容词或副词,就要看它的前后是否有比较状语从句的标志词,比如,than,前面的形容词或副词就要用比较级。
当然,要想拿到高分,少不了平时的反复训练。俞敏洪先生说过,要想听力好,就要反复听原文,哪怕听二十遍,只要你能完完整整、清清楚楚、明明白白听懂这句活,就算你掌握了。再加上掌握必要的技能技巧,将对提高考生B级听力能力大有益处。

二、试卷分析
全国高等学校英语应用能力考试(B级)目的是考核考生的语言知识、语言技能和使用英语处理有关一般业务和涉外交际的基本能力,其性质是教学—水平考试。考试方式为笔试,包括五个部分:听力理解、语汇用法和语法结构、阅读理解、翻译(英译汉)和写作(或汉译英)。考试范围限于《基本要求》B级所规定的全部内容。
1. 测试项目、内容、题型与时间分配。
第一部分:听力理解(Listening Comprehensive)。
测试考生理解所听问题并作出恰当回答的能力、理解简短对话的能力和听写词语的能力。听力材料的语速为每分钟100词。听力材料以日常交际和简单的业务交际内容为主。词汇限于《基本要求》的“词汇表”中B级2500词的范围,交际内容涉及《基本要求》中的“交际范围表”所列的B级规定的范围。本部分的得分占总分的15%。测试时间为15分钟。
第二部分:词汇用法和语法结构(Vocabulary and Structure)。

第五部分:写作———汉译英(Writing/Translation———Chinese to English)。
测试考生套写应用性短文、填写英文表格或翻译简短的实用性文字的能力。本部分的得分占总分的15%。测试时间为25分钟。
从分析可以看出,词汇与语法结构题所占分值较少,阅读理解题和翻译部分所占分值较大。由此在实践教学中,教师除了教授语法与结构方面知识之外,还要加大培养学生运用英语解决实际问题的能力。
2. 试题考查项目分析。
整套试题主要对学生进行词汇与语法结构、阅读能力和应用写作能力三个大部分的考查。
在词汇与语法结构的考查中,对词形转换、时态语态、非谓语、虚拟等语法进行重点考查,还对比较级、情态动词、主谓一致、强调句、倒装进行考查。所以教师在进行考试辅导时,要抓住要点,有所侧重地引导学生进行复习。
在阅读能力的考查中,信件和广告题材的试题较多,这也契合了此种考试对应用能力考查的侧重。此外,题材选材知识化、现代化,信息较新;而且题型较丰富:选择、填空、匹配、简答都有所涉及,突出了考试的实用灵活性。这就要求教师在实践教学中,灵活多面,不能“教死书”,学生在学习时要举一反三,不能“死读书”。
在应用写作的考查中,对填写求职申请表、邀请函、通知等应用部分的考查较多;而且由于B级考试相对容易(大多列出各式),因此教师在日常教学中,就应要求学生尽量模仿甚至背诵范文来进行的写作的练习,以达到事半功倍的效果。
三、答题技巧
通过以上两部分的分析,我们不难看出高等学校应用能力考试就是着重对学生英语实际应用能力的考查,因此,学生应该掌握与实用任务相结合的知识点。例如:公司商务,与日常生活有关的一般业务,像邮局、银行、商场、旅行社,等等。
掌握一定的词汇量是参加英语考试的基础,所以我在实践教学中,不仅要求学生掌握与考试有关的词汇,而且要求学生努力多扩大词汇量,这样学生在考试时会充满信心,不会因为词汇的问题而忧心忡忡。下面我根据多年辅导经验,就各个题型的答题技巧作一简要分析。
1. 听力方面。
听力共有三个题型。考生在拿到试卷到正式开始答题有5到7分钟的时间。在这段时间里,考生可以将第一部分题(题面短小,答案信息量少)以外的两个题型进行浏览分析并作好一定的标记。比如是与时间相关的问题,可在卷子此题旁标注“time”,以示提醒,以免紧张而漏听信息。
2. 阅读方面。
本题分为四种题型。一种是常见的单项选择题。考生应在正式阅读正文前把文章后的问题浏览一遍,迅速记住所问的问题,这样在读正文时可以一次解决问题,不用反复地看后面的问题而耽误时间。第二种是信息填空题。根据B级考试的特点,这类题一般都是正文的原句,可不必从头看正文,只要根据所要填写的信息从文中找到即可。第三种是匹配题。这些题大都是些专业术语,对英语基础差、词汇量少的考生来说是个挑战。建议考生可以先去掉题目已给的两个参考答案,再选出有把握的选项进行匹配,剩下的词汇利用部分所认识的词语进行猜测匹配。通过层层筛选,提高正确率。最后一种题型是回答问题。做题方法介于一二种题型之间。
3. 写作方面。
英语应用能力考试的作文类型都是应用文,所以考生在动笔前首先要申请题,分清楚题型,把握含义,明白要求,从而写出层次分明的文章。在写作的过程中,还要注意格式。另外,还要注意文章的布局和卷面的整洁,这在一定程度上可以提高作文的得分率。
四、结语
无论参加什么样的考试,掌握考试的题型和答题技巧都是非常必要的。考生要在日常的英语学习中加强基础知识的积累和词汇量的扩充,同时扩大知识面,提高综合运用语言的能力。考生做到有备而考,这样才能在考试中取得理想成绩。

在2013级2577名非英语专业本科生中,B级共187人。笔者在教学中发现,B级学生较AC两级具有不同的学习习惯和心理特点,B级学生英语基础较好、好学,能很好地接受老师讲授的内容和完成老师布置的任务,整体而言是三个级别中可塑性最强的。但同时,有些学生学习方法比较死板,自主学习能力和灵活性欠缺,还有些同学在大学英语学习中感到无所适从。怎样根据B级学生的学习习惯和心理特点,用最恰当的教材选择、内容取舍、教学重点安排、测试方法,使B级教学最好地发挥学生的优势,从而提高四级通过率,提高他们的英语能力,是本研究要解决的问题。
本研究采用定量和定性的方法,先与学生进行访谈,根据访谈结果设计问卷,对B级学生进行全面调查,从而明确目前我校2013级大学英语B级教学的亮点和优势,同时发现不足和欠缺,以明确今后努力的方向。
一 B级的基本情况
B级为分级测试分数在55至62分之间的学生,共三个学期大学英语必修课,分别用大学英语2、3、4来代表,即跳过大学英语1的课程,直接从大学英语2开始学习,教材使用相应的第二册。大学英语2的总评成绩分数乘以系数1.2生成虚拟的大学英语1的成绩,并获得相应学分,也就是B级的学生在没有升降级的前提下将在三个学期内获得C级学生四个学期所获得的学分,即大学英语课程的全部学分。B级学生在第三个学期期末参加全国大学英语四级考试。
二 研究方法和数据分析
1 研究方法
课题小组的B级教师先随机抽取班上的同学进行访谈,让学生谈谈B级教学中的亮点、难点、不尽如人意的地方。根据访谈整理的内容,教师了解了B级学生对教学的关注点在哪里,从而设计了调查问卷。问卷采用里克特量表形式,初稿完成后,进行了一个班的小范围试测,经过修订的量表定稿如下:

问卷发放给B班153人,其中有效问卷149份,从6个B班中每个班随机抽取10份共60份问卷进行数据分析。
2 数据分析
对“我觉得分级教学很有必要”这个描述,有48.4%和29.0%的学生分别选择了“完全同意”和“基本同意”,对于“升降级制度比较科学”的描述,“完全同意”和“基本同意”的同学占77.1%,对于测试的科学“完全同意”和“基本同意”的占86.8%。说明B班学生整体对于分级的必要性、现有升降级制度,及B班的测试等基本政策和制度持肯定态度。对于课程安排,38.7%的同学选择了“不确定”,9.7%的同学选择了“不同意”,说明学生对B班的课程安排有一些看法。对教学进度感到满意的同学占77.1%。对课堂秩序感到满意的学生达到96.8%。感到在外教和中国老师课堂上受益匪浅的同学分别占51.6%和63.3%。38.7%和61.7%的同学分别对外教和中国老师的授课内容感到满意。67.8%和58.3%的同学分别对外教和中国老师的授课方法感到满意。认为单词量、阅读、口语、语法、写作能力得到提高的学生分别占96.6%、86.7%、96.8%、30.1%和67.4%。希望大学英语课程结束后还能上英语选修课的学生有80%。认为自主学习中心对英语学习起到积极作用的同学有67.8%。
三 研究结论
1 B级教学的优势
第一,课堂秩序良好。B级的课堂秩序很好,迟到早退和旷课的学生相比A级和C级都要少,这与B级学生的特点和B级的教学特点是分不开的。一方面,B级的学生在高中阶段英语成绩相对不错,英语的基础和对英语的兴趣也比较浓厚,根据分级测试分数划分到B级而不是A级的结果使一部分学生产生了心理压力,因此他们较A级学生少了自信和骄傲,更加踏实学习。另一方面,B级的教学内容相当多,使课堂进度很快,学生也就不愿意缺席,造成损失。第三方面,降级制度对B级学生也是一种无形的压力,第一学期的降级还可能会导致大学英语1和2的两次补考。因此B级学生总体比较努力。
第二,学生英语水平的综合提高。B级教学安排的特点兼顾了词汇、阅读、写作和口语,几乎所有的学生都反映了单词量的大量增加和阅读速度的加快。敢于开口说英语,能够用英语进行必要的交流也是B班学生的最大收获之一。在问卷涵盖的几项单项英语技能中,学生反映提高大的项目依次为口语、词汇量、阅读、写作和语法。
第三,增强了学生学好英语的信心。B级的教学,尤其是中国老师的教学,课堂内容多而且信息量大,平时在B级教师的教研活动中,教师经常交流怎样安排一些对于B级学生比较挑战的教学内容和作业。例如,写2000字左右的文献综述,制作PPT用英语做主题演示,难度较大的单元测验等,教师布置这些内容时鼓励学生可以做到做好,当学生完成后教师给予鼓励,这样就渐渐培养了学生的自信,学生因没有分到A班和面临降级危险所产生的焦虑得到缓解,使B级学生更适应紧张的学习气氛,能更好地发挥潜力。
2 仍待解决的问题
第一, 教学安排。 B级前两个学期均为每周4学时,外教和中国老师各2学时,共64学时。第三个学期前10周为外教和中国老师各2学时,第11至16周都由中国老师授课。即共192学时,其中中国老师108学时,外教84学时。部分学生认为外教的课时过多,使中国老师的课堂时间非常有限,精读课文需四课时完成一个单元,泛读和快速阅读几乎没有时间处理,老师的教学手段难以变化。因此外教的课时可适当减少,如从每周2课时改为每两周2课时,这样既能缓解中国老师精读课上的压力,有利于学生打好词汇、阅读等语言基础,也能保证外教口语听力课的连续性和有效性。
第二, 外教课程内容。 外教课程的内容没有严格规范,有的外教只在课堂上进行简单的口语活动,很轻松,与中国老师课堂大量的生词和阅读内容形成对比。外教的课程内容需进一步规范和明确,除了口语和听力还应包括写作和泛读。
第三, 题库的建立。三个学期的B级所有测试试卷均由B级教学组的4位中国老师完成,工作强度相当大。如果建立起三个级别的题库,就可以方便各个级别的老师随时取用,测试也会更加规范和客观。
第四, 四级后课程。三个学期的大学英语必修课结束后B级学生就处于基本上没有英语课可上的状态,而这些学生恰恰是英语基础较好,且对英语感兴趣的学生,普遍希望能以选修课的形式继续英语学习。调查问卷上的开放式问题经过答案的整理,学生希望参加的英语选修课有类型有,商务英语、翻译、口译、高级写作、六级、雅思、报刊阅读等。学校和学院应考虑在这些方面尽量满足学生的需求。
第五, 教师固定。在访谈中学生对无论中国老师还是外教的频繁更替都不赞成,B级学习时间本来比C级已经少一个学期,新老师与学生的磨合需要过程和时间,而老师的相对固定也使B级老师更加了解学生,能够更好地开展教学。
总之,经过近三个学期的探索实践,我校的非英语专业本科生B级大学英语教学渐入佳境,笔者和同事还将继续优化分级教学的实践,将更好的经验带给兄弟院校,更重要的是,能够真正做到“因材施教”,让分级教学进一步促进学生的英语学习。
