1.1教学内容中对于企业文化教育的缺失

外贸英语函电是高职商务英语专业和国际贸易实务专业的一门核心课程, 它是融英语写作与外贸实务为一体的、实用性极强的一门综合性课程, 该课程主要讲授外贸业务过程中各类信函的写作方法, 包括写作原则、信函格式、专业词汇及交易磋商内容的表达等。通过大量的写作练习和实践, 帮助学生掌握英文函电的写作方法和技巧, 以期提高学生外贸业务的写作能力和交际能力。

然而, 在教学过程中, 国内的外贸函电教材大多仅限于国际贸易实务流程, 即建立业务关系、询盘、发盘、还盘、接受、运输、保险、支付和索赔等, 而忽略了外贸函电的应用者在与外商进行交流时, 不仅需要了解工作流程, 还应该了解不同的企业文化, 从而能够使跨文化的交流更加顺畅、提高贸易成功的可能性。

1.2教学方法上与企业实际需求的差距较大

高职院校外贸英语函电的任课教师有两类:一是具有扎实的英语语言知识, 擅长语言类课程的教学, 但却缺乏外贸知识或实践经验;二是具有深厚的外贸专业知识, 擅长专业课程的教学, 但英语语言知识掌握不精。擅长英语语言知识的教师沿用语言教学的套路, 对信函逐词、逐句进行解释和翻译, 由于对相关贸易术语及交易流程各个环节等知识缺乏实际经验, 只能照本宣科;擅长专业理论的教师则大讲外贸知识, 由于缺乏英语基础知识, 对信函的讲解又不够细致, 不能帮助学生较好地理解信函内容。因而, 现有的外贸英语函电课程的教学方法通常采取“满堂灌”的形式, 使得学生仅仅会背诵一些基本的专业英文术语或仅仅会套用一些简单的英文句型, 而没有真正掌握与外商灵活沟通交流的能力, 因此与外贸企业的实际需求差距较大。

2外贸企业文化的特色与人才需求

2.1外贸企业文化的特色

外贸企业文化, 是企业文化在对外贸易领域的一种表现形式, 是随着外贸企业的不断发展而逐渐探索形成的。尽管每个企业在长期的经营管理过程中会形成自己独特的企业文化, 但大体上来说, 外贸类企业的企业文化都涉及到这些方面, 比如诚信理念、市场理念、创新理念、竞争理念、吃苦耐劳的精神和良好的沟通能力等。因此, 以职业道德、沟通交流、团队协作、责任意识、诚信品质、敬业精神等为表征的社会能力理应成为高职教育的应有之义。

2.2外贸企业的人才需求

首先, 外贸企业需要诚实守信的人才。因此, 在教学过程中, 教师应该有意识地向学生灌输诚信理念, 使诚信成为一种习惯;其次, 外贸企业需要具有国际化视野和较高国际文化素养的人才。这就要求外贸从业人员, 尤其是直接与外商沟通的业务人员, 要了解外国文化和商务习惯, 具备较高的文化素养。在沟通过程中, 能够熟练运用得体的语言在各环节与外商进行书面的交流, 能够有礼有节、委婉礼貌地拟写各类信函, 并对外商的来函作出合理的回应;第三, 外贸企业需要具有吃苦耐劳精神的人才。由于国际贸易交易时间长, 涉及到不同国家之间的文化差异、时间差异、地域差异等问题, 因而要求从业人员能够具有吃苦耐劳的精神, 在遇到难题时有毅力克服这些问题。

3外贸英文函电课程教学与企业文化对接的途径

3.1在教学内容中融入企业文化教育

在课程标准的制定上, 外贸函电课程应在外贸流程的各个环节融入对外贸企业特色文化的理解。在外贸函电的教学中可以深度扩展教材内容, 把企业文化因素注入教学内容, 例如, 在学习如何与外商建立业务关系一章时, 教师可向学生强调诚信原则在建交时的重要性;在学习运输保险等实务流程时, 教师需要告诉学生高度的责任感是保证外贸业务顺利进行的前提条件。

3.2增强对学生职业道德和企业文化认知的培养

任何教育都不只是一种知识的传授和能力的训练, 更应该是人格的塑造。我们培养出来的高职学生走上社会, 其首先应该是一个具有完全人格的人, 其次才是他所掌握的知识能力。高职教育应该以职业人格的养成为目标, 而职业人格应以职业道德的养成为核心。

不仅如此, 外贸函电的课程教学中还要加强对外贸企业文化认知的培养、加强与外贸企业文化的沟通与融合, 把学生培养成适应企业文化的“实用型”人才、使学生进入外贸企业后不仅能“谋生”, 更能发展、创新;不仅能适应一线的基本操作, 又能兼容、创新、实现可持续发展。

3.3加强校企合作让学生有更多机会学习企业文化

高职院校应抓住经济转型期外贸企业对高素质外贸人才的需求, 高度重视与行业优秀企业合作, 深耕产学结合。合作可在以往单一的岗位实习模式的基础上实行多样化的模式, 例如, 企业直接在高校建立岗位对口的订单班, 专门针对企业具体岗位的需求进行培训, 课程设置也要配合企业需求, 学生在学期间定期到企业参观学习, 了解企业文化与工作程序;同时, 高校也可以聘请企业优秀员工到课堂里进行客座讲学, 介绍企业文化和工作经验等。

随着全球经济一体化的发展,越来越多的中国企业直接参与了国际市场竞争。要想在竞争中获胜,企业必需拥有一批既有外贸专业知识和扎实基本功,又有较高商务英语水平的外贸实用型人才,因此外贸函电变得日益重要。

1目前外贸函电教学状况

①教材陈旧。在当前实际教学中使用的外贸函电教材种类非常多,但教材大部分内容陈旧,很多沿袭旧版,或是挖补性修改。且当今电子商务的迅猛发展和应用,外贸业务联系大多是通过电邮和传真进行。而现仍有不少教材大篇幅地介绍电报和电传类的内容。加上教材本身的滞后性,就很难适应外经贸职业教育发展的需要。

②教师队伍专业素质参差不齐。外贸函电是一门将国际贸易实务与外贸英语相结合的综合性课程,属于专门用途英语(EsP)范畴。教师既要有良好的英文口语教学水平,还应有丰富的外经贸专业知识。

③缺乏实践教学及其创新。外贸函电是借助网络信息,在一定外文基础上实现商务活动,具有很强的实践操作性。而现有课程体系中没有突出创新性,只停留在理论教学,实践教学相对较少,或只是一些理论上的论述创新,缺乏具体的实验活动做指导,在课程体系中大多采用面授式的教学,以模拟性为主,讲解基础性知识,是不利于学生创新能力的培养。

2外贸函电教学探索与改革

外贸英语函电也是一门实用性英语课程。它是根据外贸业务环节的实际流程,系统地展示函电来往的内容、语言特点和表达方式。通过函电的学习,使学生掌握撰写外贸英语函电的知识,具有草拟有关的函电、合约的能力,以适应外经贸工作中与境外客户进行联络的实际业务需要。为应对新形势,须在实际教学中,加以改革创新,整合现有课程体系,加强教学方法、教学手段的改革,以提高学生的综合能力。

①课程体系,教学内容的改革创新,构建新的课程体系。《外贸函电》是一门将国际贸易理论与实务、国际结算、大学英语等相结合的综合性课程,对有重叠内容或相同的课程进行整合。为此,我院去年开始进行相关课程体系改革,08级实行“三阶段,九级别”的课程体系整合:按照学生职业教育培养目标要求从低到高,相应制订了使用能力阶段、结构能力阶段、原理能力阶段,而各阶段里又分别划分三个级别。比如在使用能力阶段中一级的要求是学生能考取单证员证书,具有较强电子制单能力,看懂各种电子单据,掌握不少于500个电子制单、常用外贸词汇并熟练掌握国际贸易、单证、谈判、国贸地理的基础知识,相应的就开设了国际商务单证理论、国际贸易、国际商务谈判、国际贸易地理、国际结算、集装箱运输实务等操作性课程。而在结构能力和原理能力阶段中,对学生的培养要求逐渐提高,在开设外贸跟单理论、报检基础知识等实务操作性课程同时增加如国际市场营销、货币银行学等理论性课程,打破原有专业基础课、理论基础课、专业课、专业实践操作课的顺序设置的课程体系,着重培养学生的实际操作能力,以适应社会对外贸人才的需要。

②外贸专业知识与英文函电知识相结合。外贸函电是以函电为基础,对国际贸易中各实践环节进行展开,要求教师拥有扎实的外贸专业知识和较高的英文口语教学水平,才能胜任外贸函电的教学任务。所以在教学过程中做到理论教学与实践教学相结合,以培养和提高学生的学习兴趣和能力。教师先要向学生介绍外贸函电的基本理论知识,再以外贸业务流程为主线,介绍相关的外贸业务背景和专业知识,便于学生更深刻地领会和掌握国贸实务知识。此外,应加大外贸英语会话训练,融外贸英语会话于函电教学之中,使学生口语和书面表达能力都能提高。

《外贸函电》课程标准 篇4

一、课程概述

(一)课程性质

《外贸函电》是高职高专商务英语专业的职业技能课程之一。根据高职高专人才培养目标,结合应用英语专业岗位群和职业能力要求,结合岗位资格证书社会需要,本课程旨在培养学生掌握外贸英语函电的基本知识,定位于培养懂外语、掌握熟练的进出口业务操作技能,具备一定的计算机办公应用能力的复合型英语人才。

(二)课程基本理念

本课程领域的学习情境是依据以工作过程为导向,以典型工作任务为基点,讲授外贸常用文体的基本知识,包括各类商务书信、常用语句、常用术语及拟写技巧。通过对外贸易业务磋商过程中各个环节往来函电实例的学习,熟悉、掌握外贸业务磋商各个环节—建立业务关系、询盘、报盘、推销、还盘、成交、装运、保险、申诉、索赔、争议、代理等的常用表达及写作技巧,并能在实际应用中熟练使用;以及各类单据及单证实例如信用证、订单、提单、保险单、装箱单、检验证明等,让学生全面了解外贸业务知识的各个环节,并运用英语熟练表达,达到应用的目的。

(三)课程设计思路

以职业能力培养为重点,以情景教学为主线,以外贸英语函电在实际工作中的应用方向和具体要求为出发点,以专业岗位的任职要求为指导,本着“够用、实用、必须”的原则,打破以知识传授为主要特征的传统学科课程模式,突出对学生职业能力的训练,充分体现职业性、实践性和开放性,切实培养学生语言实践能力,实现课堂内外的有机结合。

此外坚持与行业、企业共同开发课程,通过行业专家,明确外贸岗位所包含的工作过程和任务,在任务分析的基础上,确定以任务为导向的课程方案,即教学内容按任务模块去组织,教学程序用任务去驱动。采取教学做一体的教学模式,加强对学生外贸操作技能的训练。

实践教学方面,按课内与课外相结合、仿真与实战相结合的思路设计实践教学,将理论知识学习、职业技能训练和实际工作体验结合在一起,使学生进入外贸岗位后能尽快适应企业环境、胜任工作。

二、课程目标

(一)总目标

《外贸函电》立足于进出口贸易基本操作技能的培养,理论结合实际,强调课程的岗位性,注重学生的敬业精神以及发现问题、分析问题、解决问题等综合能力和创新能力的培养。以外贸业务进展的顺序,系统地介绍了国际贸易中的一些重要环节如建立业务关系、询盘、报盘、接受与订购、支付方式、运输与交货、保险、索赔与仲裁等书面沟通实例,并介绍了外贸英语谈判外贸英语函电中的语言技巧及常用文体的基本知识,包括各类商务信函、电报、电传及电子邮件的格式、写作方法等。力争通过课堂传授与专门的模块实训、实务操作以及校外实训基地的业务实习,突出动手能

力的培养,注重将知识转化为能力,达到学以致用的目标,培养学生在不同情形下写出措辞得体、布局合理的函电。

(二)具体目标

1、取得外贸行业职业资格证书,具体为报关员职业资格证、报检员职业资格证、国际商务单证员职业资格证、外贸业务员职业资格证中的一种或多种。

2、了解进出口贸易的操作流程及必要的专业知识,熟悉进出口业务建立贸易关系、交易磋商、签定合同、履行合同、制单结汇的基本流程及相关外贸知识。

3、发现问题、分析问题、解决进出口贸易活动中一般问题的能力,有一定的创新能力。

4、掌握英文贸易书信撰写方法与技巧,能够书写一般进出口业务函电及询盘、发盘、还盘、接受,起草进出口贸易合同,填写信用证申请书,修改信用证。

5、设计企业统一的对外英文信件范本,缮制进出口结付汇单据。

四、实施建议

(一)教学建议

1、本课程要求学生具有相当于国家公共英语等级考试(PETS III)的英语基础并已修完本专业相关课程。

2.该课程与《国际贸易实务》课程有非常密切的联系,它们之间有相辅相成的关系。通过学习《国际贸易实务》课程,学生可以更好地掌握函电的基本知识。

3.本课程要求突出实践性教学特点,“精讲多练”。可采取“理解→记忆→模仿→活用”的实践步骤。由于外贸函电是集外贸英语和外贸知识为一体的课程,因此,在教学中还要根据不同单元的具体情况,结合实际案例进行讲解,使学生学有所用,同时对外贸中的风险有所认识。

4.要在讲授词汇、句型的基础上,突出信函结构及写作技巧的讲解,体现商务信函“清楚、简洁、礼貌”三项基本要求。

5.商务信函作为书面语言,应突出中、英互译的训练。英译中要合乎汉语规范,正确使用汉语经贸术语。中译英要合乎商业英语的习惯表达方式。

6.课文的讲解一般应辅以业务背景介绍,以便帮助学生加深对课文的理解。串讲课文的方式一般应采用意译法,并应尽量使用学生已学过的词汇和表达方式,以便使学生温故而知新。

7.建立教学实践基地,定期进行教学调研和教学评估,不断完善各教学环节,确保教学质量。(二)考核评价建议

学生学业评价的原则:尊重学生主体地位、促进学生的全面发展、尊重学生个体差异、指导学生的发展方向、激发学生内在评价的需要。学生学业成绩评定的内容可根据学科特点及学生年龄的特点,由情感态度、基础知识及技能技巧等内容组成。

例如:情感态度。根据平时学生课堂表现情况确定,可以从课堂纪律、学生参与度、与人合作表现等情况综合评定,评定等级可以分为A、B、C、D四个等级(也可实行百分制)。合格率可根据实际情况控制在90%左右。对于评定为“待合格”的学生,教师应向其指出缺点,帮助其改变;对于学期结束前有明显改进的,可重新评定。

例如:基础知识及技能技巧。外贸函电作为一门写作技能课,应通过课堂提问、听写、测验及作业等方式加强平时检查。应将中英互译、起草信函作为学期末考核重点,应注意考核方法及考试题型的改革创新。

(三)教材编写建议

对外贸函电教材的建设,主要三个方面:一是文字主教材,科学、系统、完整地阐述外贸函电的基本理论与方法,起到传授理论知识、方法和指导自学的作用;二是文字辅导教材,主要是与主教材配套的各章重点、难点解析及综合练习题、参考答案;三是辅助媒体,进行阶段性练习、模拟实验等作为辅助媒体。

(四)实验实训设备配置建议

学习场地、设施要求为商务ICT实训室、国际商务洽谈室、国际贸易模拟室、语言实验室,有授课区、多媒体设备等。

(五)课程资源的开发与利用建议

1、积极组织教师开发教学素材,丰富学校的教学资源,如教学材料、实验方案、教学论文、课件、图片、录像带、幻灯片、学生优秀作业和小论文等,形成资源库,实现资源共享。

2、发挥师生的信息源作用,建立稳定的信息交流渠道,如讨论会、校园墙报、广播站、学生刊物等。

3、建立资源的维护和管理系统,使学校资源得到充分利用和不断发展。

在科技语言中,“度”字是一个使用率很高的表示各种计量单位的字。按中文的习惯,“度”既可以表示电表、水表或温度计上的刻度,又能表示眼镜片深浅的屈光度或地理位置的经纬度,等等。然而,在英语里却找不出一个适用于各种场合下的通用字。翻译时,必须视不同的意境使用不同的英语对应字。如:(1)译为 degree degree是普通用字,作“度”字的对应字使用时,多指温度以及几何学中弧和角的计算单位等。

在国际贸易中, 一笔交易从买卖双方取得联系开始直至合同履行完毕, 往往需要经过以下步骤:建立业务联系→交易磋商→合同签订→合同履行。其中, 各环节都会使用外贸函电进行联系, 尤其是前两个环节的使用频率最高。在信息化高度发达的今天, 外贸函电并不局限于纸质版的, 也可以是电子邮件、传真或MSN。

一、撰写外贸英语函电应遵循的“7C”原则

外贸英语函电并不要求作者使用华丽优美的词句, 而是用一些简单朴实的语言准确地表达自己的意思, 让对方可以清楚地了解自己想说什么。一般地, 外贸函电有以下写作原则:

1、体谅原则 (consideration) :

就是强调对方的情况而不是自己的情况, 要体现一种站在他人角度去考虑、多体谅对方心情和处境。

2、礼貌原则 (courtesy) :

礼貌不仅仅是指有礼而已, 或者简单的用一些礼貌用语就可以, 它是从一个“You attitude”的角度考虑问题。如何让对方觉得是礼貌呢?尽量不用大写英文字母;不应使用过激、冒犯和轻视的词语;第一尽量用被动态;第二用疑问句;最后用虚拟句。

3、完整原则 (completeness) :

在函电中信息完整很关键, 一封外贸英语函电应概括各项必需的事项。如, 邀请信应说明时间、地点等, 切忌寄出含糊不清的信件或一件事分多次书信传达给对方。

4、清楚原则 (clarity) :

是外贸英语函电写作最重要的原则。一封含糊不清、词不达意的书信会引起误会, 甚至会造成贸易损失。要注意修饰词的位置;选择正确、简练的词以及正确的句子结构。

5、简洁原则 (conciseness) :

要求用最少的语言表达最丰富的内容。要做到简洁, 必须避免废话连篇;能用单词表达短语的就用单词, 能用短语表达句子的就用短语, 能用短句表达长句的则用短句。

6、具体原则 (concreteness) :

外贸英语函电必须避免采用模糊、大概和抽象的词语和语句, 应尽量运用具体的事实和数字, 这样将有助于加快事务的进程。

7、正确原则 (correctness) :

语言和内容都要正确。具体体现在以下几点:标点符号的运用;单词的位置;介词的表达, 数字前如果要用介词则须十分小心。

二、写作外贸英语函电的技巧

1、函电不宜写得过长。

一般地, 很多欧洲客户处理每一封函电的时间是2~3秒, 也就是大致扫一眼。重要的函电, 一般马上仔细阅读并回复;不是太重要的, 会在outlook里标注上要处理的具体时间, 然后从in box拉到相应的子目录里。

2、要有明确的主题。

主题明确的写法举例“ABC inc/Home Depot vendor-solar desk/DEF Co.Ltd.”其中, ABC inc代表了客户的公司名, 主题里首先加上对方公司名, 表示对对方公司的尊重;Home Depot是美国第二大零售商, Home Depot vendor-solar desk明确表示自己是北美第三大零售商, 既表明了实力, 也勾起对方的兴趣;最后的DEF Co.Ltd.代表自己公司。

函电开头不宜使用“From the inter-net……”。实际操作中, “From the internet, we get your company name.”类似的话千万不要说!可以这样写:“We're glad to hear that you're on the market for...”。 (我们很高兴获悉你对某某产品有兴趣) 。

4、不要长篇大论的介绍公司或工厂。

但是可以这样写:We supply solar lights for Home Depot with high quality and competitive price.Hope to cooperate with you!简单的一两句话点到重点, 调起对方的胃口, 让他反过来问各种问题, 这样容易达到目的。

5、不要为炫耀英文水平而不简洁。

外贸英语函电的精髓就是“简单、简单、再简单”。能用一个词表达的绝对不用两个词或短语, 能用一句话写清楚的绝对不写两句!

6、不宜用异样的字体。

很多人为了追求醒目, 总喜欢用很夸张的字体、颜色、甚至放大、加粗、斜体等等, 其实一眼看上去会让人很不舒服。欧美人一般比较常用的字体就是以下几种:Arial、Verdana、Calibri、Times new roman, 有时用Tahoma字体的, 但相对少一点。一部分台湾和香港客户会用PMing Li U字体。至于颜色, 一般都是黑色或者蓝色。切忌在一封邮件里出现多种奇奇挂怪的颜色, 像彩虹一样, 让对方感觉不舒服。

7、主动语态不宜用得过多。

老外在英文函电写作中很少会用“We”、“I”之类的人称。相反, 大多会用被动语态。比如“我们明天会寄给你样品”。中国人喜欢表述为“We'll send you the samples tomorrow.”这句话没错, 语法正确、意思清楚。但是老外通常会这样写“Samples will be sent to you tomorrow.”用的是被动语态, 人称也就没有了。

8、切忌问一些毫无意义的话。

比如“Do you want our products?”如果对方说No, 怎么回复?外贸函电尤其是开发信还是要直接一点, 直接告诉对方你是谁, 做什么, 优势在那里。只要清楚表述出这三点就可以了。

9、慎用附件和图片及URL链接。

附件和图片很容易被国外的服务器拦截的。所以, 第一次联系对方的时候最好全文本, 不要出现任何的图片和附件。

1 0、语气要委婉, 不要过于生硬。

“please, help, kindly, could, thank you, appreciate”这样的话在邮件来往中是很普遍的。除非你和对方已经非常熟了, 偶尔客套一下即可, 平常可以不用了。

三、外贸英语函电案例

假如写一封邮件告诉客户John, 上次收到的样品已经寄给工厂了, 但工厂说材料不是ABS, 而是PP, 需要价格他们重新核算, 但近期内原材料涨价, 希望贵方能尽快确认, 以便我方采购原材料并安排生产。

Hi John,

Samples received and already passed to vendor.The material was PP, not ABS.Offer sheet is preparing and will be sent to you soon.

By the way, raw material increased these days, please make a decision quickly to go ahead after price confirmed.We'll arrange the mass production.Thanks and best regards.

上述函电几句话点到主题, 简洁、清楚、准确。能用一句话表达的, 不写两句, 省掉一切能省的废话;表达方式尽量少用第一人称, 多用了被动语态。这就是一封好的外贸英语函电。

随着我国加入WTO,外贸业务的日趋发展使得外贸英语函电在外贸活动中充当着不可替代的角色。在双方未曾见面的情况下,如何达到自己预期的目的,往往由外贸函电语言的恰当与否所决定。因此,在正确书写的基础上,能否正确翻译外贸英语函电,对交易的顺利进行至关重要。具体到外贸英语函电的翻译,应达到以下两点:

一、基本要求

(一)将英文外贸函电翻译成中文时要达到信、达、雅的标准

在严复所译的赫胥黎《天演论》的序言中,他写道,“译事三难:信、达、雅。”“信”指的是忠实,译文应该尽可能贴切地表达出原文的意思。“达”指的是通顺流畅,这是在“信”的基础上,进一步让译文流畅顺口,以贴近母语的自然方式表达出来。“雅”是优雅、优美,要让译文和原文“神似”,比如原文里的俏皮表达,在译文里要结合母语的特点也将这种俏皮表达出来。

具体到外贸英语函电的“英译中”,首先,译文必须忠实于原文,需要准确而完整地表达原作的思想内容、情感色彩,甚至文体和风格。其次,译文的语言文字必须规范化,用词造句应符合我国语言的习惯。对于外贸英语函电的翻译,这点尤其重要,需要畅达明了,通俗易懂。

(二)将中文外贸函电翻译成英文时用语要正确

对于各类英文翻译,正确都是一个首要的原则。对于外贸英语函电来说,更应该讲究语法、标点及拼写正确,还要求使用规范的语言、恰当的叙述、精确的数值。例如:

1.我们将委托贵公司作为我公司在毛里求斯的业务代理。原译文:We hereby entrust your company to be our business agent in Mauritius.在这个句子中,entrust一词在作委托解时用法为entrust somebody with something or entrust something to somebody。应译为:We hereby appoint your company to be our business agent in Mauritius.

2.在双方签约之后,各方将严格遵守本协议。原译文:After this agreement is signed by the two parties,all parties shall strictly abide by it.在协议当事方为三方(或三方以上)时,各方为all parties,而当事方为两方时应用both parties。应译为:After this agreement is signed by the two parties,both parties shall strictly abide by it.

二、更高要求

(一)特别注意外贸专业术语

外贸英语函电中的英语源于普通英语,但又是普通英语与外贸专业知识的结合。因此,外贸英语函电除具有普通英语的语言学特征之外,又具有其独特性。独特性之一就是:外贸英语函电中有许多完全不同于其他种类英语词汇之含义的专业术语。专业术语要求单义性,排斥多义性和歧义性,且表达专业术语的词汇都是固定的,不得随意更改。外贸英语函电拥有数量可观的专业术语词汇,要真正读懂它,译者必须懂得外贸专业的相关知识,避免专业术语词汇普通化,否则轻则闹翻译笑话,重则将造成严重的经济损失。

例如:

1.Should you find interest in any of the items in our catalogue,please do not hesitate to send enquiries.译文:如对目录中的任何项目感兴趣,请径直寄来询盘。“enquiry”作为普通词汇,意为“询问、打听、调查、查问”。但在外贸英语函电中,指“询盘”。它在任何时候、任何国家、其译语都是固定不变的,具有国际通用性。

2.May shipment we designate to Kyotaru 5000 tons 1.5% more or less.译文:五月份装船已谈妥,由“东京丸”装载5000吨,允许1.5%溢短装。“more or less”作为普通词汇,意为“或多或少”。但是在函电中它的意思是“溢短装”。

(二)注意函电中一词多义的现象

外贸英语函电中有很多词有多个释义,只有认真掌握了这些词的释义,再联系上下文才有可能把外贸函电翻译好,以不致闹笑话。例如:

1.Wed like to inform you that our counter sample will be sent to you by DHL by the end of this week. Please confirm it ASAP so that we can start mass production.很高兴地通知您,我们的回样将于本周末用特快专递寄给您。请尽快确认,以便我方开始大批生产。

Payment will be made by a 100% confi-

rmed,irrevocable letter of credit,available by sight draft.付款方式是100%保兑的、不可撤销的即期信用证。

在第一个句子中,confirm的意思是“确认”,第二个句子中的confirmed letter of credit意为“保兑信用证”,是指一家银行所开的由另一家银行保证付款的银行信用证。

2.Our product have been endorsed by National Quality Inspection Association.我们的产品为全国质量检查协会推荐产品。

Draft must be accompanied by full set original on board marine bill of lading made to order, endorsed in blank, marked right, prepaid.汇票必须附有全套印有“货物收讫”字样的正本海运提单,凭指示、空白背书,并写明“运费已付”。

在第一个句子中,endorse的意思是“支持,赞同”,第二个句子中endorsed in blank是指背书人只在汇票背面签上自己的名字,而不指定被背书人。
