国际学生的人数是高等教育国际化程度的重要指标之一,也是高等教育国际化最明显的表现,根据《国家中长期教育改革与发展规划纲要( 2010—2020 年) 》和《留学中国计划》的精神,北方工业大学制定了《2013—2020年外国留学生教育发展规划》。规划提出到2020 年北方工业大学接收来华留学生规模为1500 人次的发展目标,其中,接收长期来华留学生达到900 人次。要实现上述目标,北方工业大学迫切需要开设具有竞争力和影响力的特色专业,特别是适合外国留学生就读的全英文授课项目。

一、北方工业大学来华留学生全英文授课本科专业发展现状

( 一) 专业开设情况

北方工业大学全英文授课专业建设尚处于起步阶段,目前已经开设建筑学、国际经济与贸易、电子信息工程三个全英文授课本科专业和工商管理全英文授课硕士研究生专业。2012 年秋季学期全英文授课建筑学本科专业开始招收留学生,截至目前该专业在校留学生共计40 人,2013 年全英文授课国际经济与贸易专业开始招收留学生,截至目前该专业在校留学生12 人。2013 年全英文授课本科留学生占北方工业大学学历留学生总数26. 5% 。2014 年参加全英文授课专业学习的留学生达98 人,占北方工业大学学历留学生总数39. 8% ( 见图1) 。

( 二) 生源情况

从全英文授课专业留学生来源看,欠发达国家和周边国家占较大比例,这也体现了目前在中国就读学历的留学生国别分布的普遍规律。其中,就读建筑学专业的非洲籍留学生呈逐年上升趋势。《中国与非洲的经贸合作( 2013) 白皮书》显示,目前中国已成为非洲最大贸易伙伴国,非洲成为中国重要的进口来源地、第二大海外工程承包市场和第四大投资目的地。随着与海外工程承包相关基础设施领域的援建项目的不断增加,非洲国家对既懂中文又懂专业知识的人才需求也不断增加,一些有远见的中产阶级家庭的父母不惜万里送子女来中国学习,就是看到了相关领域的就业前景。随着中亚五国与中国贸易往来日益频繁,中亚五国送往中国学习医学、农学、教育、经济等学科的留学生数量也在逐年增加。

( 三) 教学计划及课程设置———以建筑学本科专业为例

北方工业大学根据留学生的不同层次、不同国家等特点,提出了切合实际的多层次培养模式,根据留学生的不同基础和不同需求,设置合理的学制、优化教学内容、缩短来华留学时间; 依据留学生回国就业环境,设立不同的课程体系、调整相应的课程结构,使全英文授课专业课程设置更加合理。

目前就读北方工业大学全英文授课建筑学专业的留学生多数为非洲学生,针对留学生对学习年限和学位的不同需求,北方工业大学将全英文授课建筑学专业5 年制的教学计划调整为“4 + 1”模式。4 年制培养计划规定完成204 学分即可取得北方工业大学建筑学专业工学学士学位,希望能拿到建筑学学士学位的学生,则需再修读一年,完成236 学分。这种“4 + 1”模式更加符合留学生的实际需求,也提高了对留学生的吸引力。

在建筑学专业的课程设置方面,公共必修课中免去了中国学生必修的思政类、英语类、体育类课程; 将高等数学调整为更加贴近专业的建筑数学; 同时增加了基础汉语、中国概况等汉语类课程。专业必修课中适当增加了建筑基础课课时比重,在第三学年基础汉语课转为专业汉语课。另外,在暑假短学期“建筑认知与实践实习”环节中,北方工业大学聘请了美国友好学校的建筑学相关教授进行集中授课,在双方学校教授共同指导下留学生与该校建筑专业短期学生一起完成实践环节。

在教材选取方面,主要以国外原版教材为主,根据授课需要增加部分国内教材翻译版和自编教材为辅。

二、北方工业大学全英文授课本科专业存在的问题

( 一) 生源国相对单一,留学生普遍基础较差

目前就读北方工业大学全英文授科专业的学生多来自经济和高等教育均欠发达国家,几乎没有汉语基础,留学生之间的交流主要依靠其母语,留学生比较容易形成以国家为主体的特色圈子。由于留学生的入学门槛较低,没有经过中国高考的筛选,普遍基础较差,这就给教学工作带来了巨大挑战。学生的数理化基础差,独立学习能力不足,易封闭在个人或同国籍学生的圈子里,主动学习的积极性不高,更不愿意主动与教师交流,上课迟到、作业拖拉的情况比较普遍。

( 二) 全英文授课教师缺乏

近几年,北方工业大学引进了很多海外人才和高层次外籍专家,这其中的部分教师成为全英文授课教师的主力军。但是部分教师虽然专业知识丰富,但是英语还不能达到运用自如的水平,特别是针对学生提出的问题进行解释或是涉及到的理论结合实例进行分析时,不能像运用汉语那样表述清楚。缺乏知识丰富、作风严谨、富有责任心和爱心才的全英文授课教师。

( 三) 课程设置尚不完善

为适应留学生需求,北方工业大学已对原有课程体系进行了改革,如将专业主干课保留,删减了体育、思政类等具有中国特色的课程,用相对简单的经济数学、建筑数学课替代高等数学等。但是,目前与专业必修课相比,专业选修课开设的较少,无法满足留学生个性化培养需求; 适合于各个专业的通时类课程开设不足,尤其是能体现中国文化或是与国际接轨的通时课较少; 汉语课程设置缺乏系统性,留学生汉语学习积极性不高; 专业实习课设置较少,毕业实习环节缺乏统一指导,不利于对留学生实践能力的培养。

三、北方工业大学全英文授课本科专业的发展思路

( 一) 拓宽招生渠道,拓展生源国家

根据2013 年教育部公布的来华本科生国别统计数据,2013 年来华本科生来自185 个国家和地区,其中达到或超过1000 人的国家和地区有19 个,这19 个国家和地区的来华本科生占总数的75% ,其中英语为官方语言的国家有印度、巴基斯坦、新加坡、加纳、美国和尼日利亚。北方工业大学应努力在这些国家中加大招生宣传力度,与相关招生机构和院校达成合作意向。

北方工业大学应加强同英语国家姊妹院校开展学分互认,利用奖学金名额吸引欧美国家的友好院校选拔优秀学生以“2 + 2”联合培养方式参加北方工业大学全英文授课本科专业学习,以增加留学生数量。

( 二) 加强教师队伍建设,建立健全教学评价体系

首先在对留学生任课教师的选拔上,应优先选择有国外留学或工作经历的教师,同时要重视青年教师的英语教学能力的培训,外派青年专业课教师到国外进修,定期组织全英文授课教学基本功大赛,以选拔和培养一批专业课水平和英语表达能力都过关的优秀全英文授课教师。其次,通过增加留学生课时津贴等激励制度鼓励优秀教师从事留学生教育,根据留学生教育的特殊性完善对留学生授课教师的考核评价体系,促使教师有热情投入到留学生教育工作中。第三,建立健全与全英文授课专业相匹配的教学评价与监控体系。聘请英语水平和专业水平高的教授督导员,深入到全英文授课课堂听课,发现问题并及时反馈; 留学生评价较高的教师可以进行示范教学,向青年教师传授教学方法和经验; 定期组织授课教师交流会和研讨会,共同探讨和解决教学中存在的问题。

( 三) 突出重点学科和优势专业,打造精品化课程

北方工业大学首批全英文专业已经在国际化教育基础较好的优势学科中开展,接下来应鼓励传统优势专业创造条件积极参与,也可以充分利用国外先进的教育资源,以与国外大学开设中外教师联合授课的形式,先开设一部分全英文授课课程,等条件成熟以后再开设全英文授课专业。2 ~ 3 年内逐渐打造一批优秀的全英文教学团队、校级精品课程和视频公开课等校级项目,然后结合教育部在全国高校范围内开展针对留学生开设的全英文授课品牌课程评选工作,推出国家级精品化课程。

( 四) 引入多元化人才培养模式,进一步提高留学生教育教学质量

北方工业大学还应该围绕全英文授课留学生教育培养的总体目标,按照多元文化背景下来华留学生特点和人才培养规律,在教育模式上进行大胆探索和创新。给留学生创造和提供工作实习渠道提高留学生培养质量。北方工业大学自己的校办企业、设计院所及具有良好合作关系的相关企业可以为留学生提供实习机会和就业机会,学校应设立留学生实习就业辅导中心为留学生提供相关信息。此外,还要经常为留学生举办各种各样的活动,如组织留学生开展研讨会和交流会,鼓励留学生加入到中国学生的社团组织,以不同于课堂教学的形式对留学生进行教育,把留学生的培养过程延伸到日常生活中。

( 五) 运用现代教育科技,逐步实现留学生课程与国际接轨

随着互联网的发展,教育技术不断更新,诸如MOOCs( Massive Open Online Courses,大规模开放型课程) 等新型数字化学习模式使得各国教育资源更加开放,教育的围墙被打破,对传统教育模式提出了挑战,也带来了机遇。鉴于留学生的国际化程度高,善于接受新事物,喜欢灵活的授课方式,同时英文基础好的特点,可以探索在留学生教育中应用MOOCs的方法和路径,逐步实现课程与国际接轨。例如: 对于基础课,可以用MOOCs课程取代本校课程,减少教师的备课讲课工作量,使教师精力专注于优势课程的研发; 对于专业性较强的课程,则以本校课程为主,同时将MOOCs课程内容、考核方式作为模块引用或嵌入; 还可以运用MOOCs的翻转课堂,即学生课前先在网上学习教师授课的内容,课堂则用于提问和互动讨论。通过不断尝试,针对留学生教学的需要,对于本校有特色的课程,可以开发成为MOOCs课程,提供在线学习。

四、结语

依靠北方工业大学优势专业建设独具特色的外国留学生全英文授课教育体系,需要我们从专业特色定位出发,充分利用国内外优质教育资源,制定有针对性的留学生培养方案,同时以社会需求为导向,积极拓展﹑研究适合国际人才市场需要的多元化培养模式,在加强英文授课教师队伍建设的同时,努力打造一批面向留学生教育的全英语授课品牌专业和精品课程,进而推动国际化办学进程,开拓留学生教育的新局面。

1 引言

自20世纪60年代中期开始, 语篇分析 (discourse analysis) 作为一种独立的研究方法开始在中国兴起, 引起了不少研究者的兴趣, 因为它相对其他研究方法更具有实用性, 它不仅能分析出语篇的交际目的, 而且能分析出作者在达到目的时使用的策略技巧。在近半个世纪的时间里, 语篇分析的发展经历了几个阶段, 研究重点也发生了相应的变化:从纯粹的词汇语法分析到语篇结构分析再更深进入到分析语篇所处的语境因素、社会文化因素以及语篇社团因素。研究领域逐渐挖深, 到现在已进入到体裁分析 (genre analysis) 阶段, 以交际目的为基础, 着重分析体裁的语言策略运用、体裁的宏观结构和交际功能。

在经济高度发展的当今社会, 商务语体在当今国际贸易中发挥着越来越重要的作用, 而其中宣传类体裁更是商务语体中不可忽视的一种体裁。以前的研究注重从总体上研究宣传类体裁的特征, 或者研究宣传类语体群中某一种次体裁的特征, 很少有比较研究。

本文试图从概念、体裁分析的特点等方面着手, 对商务宣传促销类体裁中的次体裁即英文推销信和求职信进行比较分析, 探讨它们两种次体裁在交际目的、题材结构和词汇语法特征上的异同点。以便更全面地把握这两种次体裁以及更好地实现宣传说服的实践意义。

2 体裁理论

2.1 体裁的概念

关于体裁的概念, 最早是由Swales (1990) 提出来的, 后来Bhatia (1993) 在Swales的体裁概念基础上进一步作出阐明;而国内学者对体裁的概念作出解释主要有秦秀白 (1997) 和方琰 (1998) 。本文主要引用Bhatia (1993) 对体裁定义的解释。根据Bhatia, “体裁是一种可被辨认的交际事件, 这种交际事件经常出现在特定的职业或学术团体的范围, 其显著特点是具有能被该社团理解并确认的一整套交际目的, 这种共有的交际目的确定了体裁的构建, 同时也确定了其内部的结构。体裁是一种内部结构特征鲜明、高度约定俗成的交际事件。有关职业和学术社团的专业人员均对特定语篇体裁和其内在结构了如指掌” (Bhatia, 1993) 。

2.2 体裁分析的特点

体裁分析是一个广泛的概念, 模式众多, 不可一概而论, 但有几个特点可以总结如下:

体裁交际目的的重要性。很多因素影响着体裁性质和构成, 其中最重要的是交际目的, 这是从体裁的定义得出来的。交际目的是所有交际参与者所共同理解并且得到社会或语篇团体一致认同的, 它不但是划分不同体裁的依据, 更决定着体裁的语言策略的运用以及语篇结构模式。

体裁分析的多层次性。体裁分析有三个分析层次, 这三个层次由微观到宏观, 面面俱到, 力求做到分析全面, 不遗漏。首先是词汇语法特征分析, 这种分析体裁的语言修辞方面的特点, 这是表面特征分析, 即微观分析。进而进入体裁结构模式分析, 揭示语篇的结构组织模式, 最后是进入到宏观分析层次, 即社会认知分析, 结合体裁所处的社会语境、语篇社团以及交际对象来整体分析体裁的社会文化因素、心理认知因素以及语篇社团因素的互动。

体裁分析的实用性。体裁分析可以用于不同体裁分析也可用于同一体裁的不同此体裁研究, 研究范围广泛, 研究方法简单, 多是文本分析。

3 英文推销信和求职信

3.1 英文推销信

英文商业推销信是英文广告中直接信函的一种, 是企业在其促销活动中广泛使用的一种宣传方式。促销信语言属于“鼓动性语言”, 有强烈的“劝说功能”, 在语法修辞、词汇、句法等方面都独具特色。

3.2 英文求职信

求职信是附于简历上, 以进一步说明求职者经历、能力的信函, 是不可缺少的求职材料。求职信是求职者经历和能力的一种推销, 所以说, 英文求职信和商务促销书一样, 均是用来把自己当做一件商品推销出去的一种商业函件。作为商务信函的一种, 其交际目的是为了获得面试的机会, 最终帮助求职者获得所谋求的工作职位。

4 比较分析英文推销信和求职信的异同点

4.1 相似点

第一, 交际目的的相似性。求职信和推销信有相同的交际目的, 都是就申请或销售的价值说服预期的雇主或买主, 同属于宣传类语体的次体裁。

Bhatia从识别体裁最重要的因素即体裁的交际目的这一点来强调求职信和推销信的相似性。他认为, 虽然求职信和推销信被认为是两种很不同的文本, 大异小同, 但是只要比较两种文件的交际目的, 就会发现他们的交际目的是相同的, 即他们促销一种特定产品或服务。两者都是说服性的, 使用相同媒介, 采用同一形式。

第二, 体裁结构上的相似性。根据Bhatia, 英文推销信和求职信在体裁结构上有些共同语步, 即提出所推销的内容, 详细介绍推销内容, 提出足以激励对方的策略, 附寄文件, 采用施压策略, 请求回复, 礼貌收尾。

第三, 词汇语法特征的相似性。首先, 英文推销信和求职信是属于商务英语语体, 因此体现着商务英语的共同特征:商务导向, 谦虚有礼, 简洁、具体、明晰;其次, 这两种语篇是宣传类语体的次体裁, 体现着宣传类语体的词汇语法特征。他们的语言体现着劝说的交际目的, 因而多用说服性的语言, 且具有信息性, 以此来让顾客和应聘者了解所推销的内容;再次, 两者在语气上都使用祈使语气, 让对方感受到一种真诚和礼貌;最后, 两者在语言细节上多用具有积极意义的词汇和名词前多重修饰词。具有积极含义的词汇是为了为了增强说服力和感染力, 塑造积极、乐观、愉快和亲切的形象, 让对方对所推销的内容产生好感并树立足够的信心, 这些词汇使读者感到热情和亲切, 对使用该产品或服务的前景感到乐观和充满信心。名词前多重修饰语是为了把要表达的信息高度密集化。名词前多重修饰语的使用, 在保证表达必要信息的前提下, 既精简了语法结构, 又达到行文简洁紧凑的效果。

4.2 不同点

第一, 交际目的的不同点。虽然从宏观角度来看, 英文推销信和求职信作为宣传类语体群的次体裁, 有共同的交际目的, 即劝说的功能, 但是具体分析起来, 两者的交际目的还是有些不同。英文促销信主要是为了引起潜在客户对商家所提供的产品或服务的注意、引起潜在客户的兴趣和购买欲、开启商家和潜在客户之间的业务关系、刺激潜在客户采取购买行动。总而言之, 促销信的主要交际目的就是说服潜在客户购买商家所提供的产品或接受其服务。而求职信作为一种商务信函, 其交际目的主要是为了获得面试的机会, 最终帮助求职者获得所谋求的工作职位。

第二, 题材结构的不同点。Bhatia总结了推销信和求职信有些共同的语步, 但同时它们在结构和语步上也有些微妙的不同。推销信和求职信对每个语步的重视程度是不一样的, 而且不同语步在两种语体中担任的角色也是不一样的。在推销信中, 重视的是以下几个语步:介绍推销内容、介绍产品或服务、介绍推销内容的重要细节、指明推销内容的价值。而求职信着重在提出或陈述候选身份, 确定任职凭证, 提出足以激励对方接受申请凭证。

第三, 词汇语法的不同点。英文推销信的词汇语法特点主要体现在:并列结构和主从结构交替使用、多用主动句, 少用被动句、多用肯定句式, 少用否定句式、多用祈使句、多用现在时和现在完成时、多用第一人称和第二人称作主语。而英文求职信的语言风格则有以下几个方面来体现:因为求职信是为了获得面试的机会或者甚至得到一份工作, 因此它的语言是要积极表现自己能胜任所要应聘的工作的, 多是描述性的形容词, 用以展现自己的能力才干来引起雇主的兴趣、注意和欣赏;另外求职信中重要的一个语步是鼓励雇主接受自己的申请, 因而必须求职者必须在信中主要讲述自己在过去的工作和生活中与申请职位相关的工作经历以及取得的相关成绩, 这就需要在信中这一语步时多使用行动性性的词汇, 以此说明自己的确值得雇主聘用;最后, 在求职信结尾处求职者会表达希望能够得到面试的机会, 所以在这一部分要使用表达殷切希望的词语, 语气要谦和、礼貌而又不失自尊。

4.3 英文推销信和求职信不同点的原因

英文推销信和求职信所表现出来的不同点究其原因可以从三个方面来解释:应用语境、交际对象、专业用语。虽然从交际目的来判断, 求职信和推销信同属于宣传促销类体裁, 在很多方面有着相似点, 但是由于处于不同的应用语境针对不同的交际对象以及使用不同的专业用语, 自然会使得英文求职信和推销信在同一体裁的大框架下表现出自己的个性。应用语境的差异导致交际目的的不同, 大的环境背景延伸出小的交际目的。交际对象和专业用语的原因引起了求职信和推销信在结构上和词汇表上表现出一系列不同点。

5 结语

宣传类语体服务于特定的言语社团, 具有特定的交际目的, 呈现出独特的语言特点和语篇特点, 负载较强的社会功能。用题材分析的方法对宣传类语体群的次体裁英文推销信和求职信进行比较, 从交际目的到题材结构再到词汇语法特征进行逐层分析, 从而了解到推销信和求职信作为宣传类语体群的两种次体裁既有宣传类语体的共同特征, 又有因其所在的特定的商务环境和跨文化人类因素而在词汇、句法和语篇方面展示着自己的特殊性。熟悉和掌握英文推销信和求职信的共同特征及它们的特殊性能帮助我们从题材的角度更好地了解推销信和求职信的本质特点和成因, 从而提高英文书信写作水平, 更好地发挥书信的交际功能, 促进客户关系的建立, 增进文化交流, 从而获得最大的经济效益和社会效益, 理论意义和实践意义都得到更好地实现。
