In more and more developed countries we see the following trends: incomes rise, people get married later and have fewer kids.The result is the demographics change and the population ages.While having more old people sounds like a good thing(as they tend to be kind and warm-hearted), it can have a serious impact on economies and societies.Consider, for example, that in order for a country’s GDP to grow it needs to produce more goods and services each year.With an aging population and more people retiring, fewer are left to work, creating an economic hole.The result is that such countries have to rely on immigration to fill the gap and this is a less-than-desirable solution.Consider also, that as more people reach their twilight years they will face increasing health problems and this puts huge pressure on health care and other social programs.In most countries the government pays for at least some of the costs of health care, not to mention things like pensions, all of which means a big bill someone has to pay for.To be fair, however, we should be careful not to direct our anger towards old people themselves.Old people can still make contributions to society, whether it means helping look after grandchildren, working part time or even doing voluntary work.On an individual level, old people can be a real treasure.To sum up, governments should recognize the challenges of an aging society and take the appropriate action.But in addition to fixing the short-term impact of an older society, they should also look at the bigger picture and do their best so that in the future we have a better age balance.

笔者在高三英语教学中发现, 英语写作教学是一项让师生都深感纠结的事。原因有二:其一, 学生不愿写。因为学生普遍认为英语写作训练费时多, 却收效低。在限时写作训练时, 学生是东瞧瞧西看看有没有类似的范文或话题, 想尽一切办法东拼西凑出一篇不伦不类的文章来应付老师。平时考试中, 因时间关系, 阅卷老师对书面表达的评卷有时并没有客观地反映学生的英语水平, 这使学生感觉练与不练差不多, 写与不写一个样。其二, 有的英语教师自身也怕英语写作。因学生的应付态度导致平时英语写作质量差, 教师评卷时间长, 最终导致学生和英语教师都不愿面对英语写作了。

然而, 英语书面表达在高考英语中的分值为30分, 占总分的1/5, 是仅次于阅读理解的一项重要题型。客观地说, 英语写作更能全面地反映一位学生的综合英语水平, 它涵盖了考查学生对词汇、语法、语用等多个方面的知识与技能的掌握。从近几年的书面表达的得分率来看, 整个浙江省的英语写作状况不尽如人意。全省英语书面表达的平均分在13分左右, 得分率约40%, 与其他题型相比较, 写作是最让师生头痛的一道题。这与学生和英语教师对英语写作的重视程度不够有很大的关系。

如何提高学生的英语书面表达能力, 帮助考生在高考英语书面表达中取得满意的成绩, 笔者为考生总结出一些应试技巧, 这些技巧是英语写作的一些共性技能, 学生不妨在考试中试一试。

一 审题要细

审题是高考英语书面表达得高分的前提。审题就是要从已有的信息中提取有效信息来明确文章的要求, 完成写作任务。如:2011年高考浙江卷, 它给出的是一封信的开头和第一句I am Li Yue, a student from China, Senior 2已经给出。从第一句话我们可以判断文章是以第一人称来展开, 时态是一般现在时, 但有的同学用了过去式和第三人称。又如2010年高考英语浙江卷书面表达提供了这样一句话“Li Yue has been award the title of‘Star Student of the week’for what she did for our class.”人称是第三人称, 性别为女。可有近四成的学生认为李越为男学生, 可见学生在审题时非常粗心, 没有从已知材料中获取正确的信息。

二 内容要全

从高考英语写作评分标准来看, 第五档 (25~30分) 第一条要求:完全完成了试题规定的任务, 覆盖所有内容要点。因此, 在考试过程中, 考生要把文章规定的要求及要点先列出来, 以免遗漏。有时对文章要点需重新组合, 以使行文连贯、流畅。如:2010年高考英语写作中 (浙江卷) , 有些考生, 描绘了李越冒酷暑去为班级购买服装, 同学对此评价较多, 但忽略了自己对李越的评价, 导致失分。最好的办法是在审题时列出题目的要求共有几点, 它们分别是什么?写完后再对照一遍, 确保要点全面覆盖。

三 层次要清

高考写作提供给学生的书写空间是足够的, 行与行之间是整体的。但文章的思路在逻辑上有一定的关系, 或转折、或递进、或先后、或总分等。如果学生在行文中体现出来, 那就成了段落。阅卷老师最忌讳的是文章无段落, 也就没有层次感。整个文章好像就一种看法、一个观点。因此, 评分标准第五档 (25~30) 第四点提出:有效地使用了连接成分, 使全文结构紧凑。文章要有结构, 那么段落必不可少。或两段或三段, 依据文章的思路来设定段落数。自己写出的文章要有合理的段落层次, 条理清晰, 体现出一种结构美。

四 语句要顺

英语课程标准关于写作的要求, 其中第八级第一点是这样描述的:能写出连贯且结构完整的短文, 叙述事情或表达观点和态度。文章是否连贯, 影响到行文的逻辑性。一篇优秀的文章, 让人读完感觉行云流水、一气呵成。要达到这种效果, 就少不了过渡词。如表示递进关系的过渡词有:also、besides moreover、furthermore、in addition、what is more、what is worse、worse still等词;表示转折关系的过渡词有:but、yet、however、nevertheless、in spite of、although、though、while、still、otherwise、on the contrary、on the other hand等词;表示因果的过渡词有:so for、there、as a result、because、owing to、due to、thanks to、on account of、now that、since、consequently等词;表示解释、说明关系的过渡词有:as a matter of fact、in fact、surprisingly、such as、for example、that is、that is to say、in other words等词;表示条件关系的过渡词有:as long as、on condition that if、unless、suppose、supposing等词;表示时间顺序关系的过渡词有:now、after、after a while、at first、in the beginning、later、next、finally、in the end等词;表示空间顺序的过渡词有:on the right/left、on the side of、at the end of、on the other side of、here、there、next to、above、on the foot/top/end、in the middle/centre/back/front of等词。考生平时要注意积累这些常用的过渡词并能恰当地使用它们, 那么写出的文章就会有连贯性和逻辑性, 使全文结构紧凑、自然流畅, 体现出文章的衔接美。

五 句式要变

句式变就是句式要有变化, 有些同学在写作时往往there be句型一用到底, 缺乏变化。高考写作评分标准第五档 (25~30) 第三点:语法结构或词汇方面有些错误, 但为尽力使用较复杂结构或高级词汇所致;具备较强的语用能力。这一点明确告诉考生, 较复杂结构就是使用一些并列句式和复合句式。考生在考试过程中应注意句式的灵活多变, 包括主动语态和被动语态的交替使用, 分词短语的正确使用, 倒装、感叹句、独立主格、强调句等的使用, 这会使文章读起来有新意, 让人有耳目一新的感觉, 体现出文章的句式美。如:复合句与并列句之间的转换。If you work hard, you will make great progress.可转换成Work hard, and you will make great progress.又如:正常语序和倒装语序的替换。My village lies east of the river.可转换成East of the river lies my village.再如:肯定式与否定式的转换。I shall go there if it doesn’t rain.可转换成I shall go there unless it rains.比较而言, 三个例句中, 第二句比第一句更有气势、更新颖。

六 用词要新

考生要多运用一些高级词汇对提高英语写作的档次和得分至关重要, 但这不是说鼓励学生使用一些偏词、怪词, 甚至使用一些连阅卷老师也不认识的词, 而是要准确得体地使用一些生动、具体、形象的词语, 能展示考生深厚的语言功底与文学素养。比如:Your help will be very important.可转换成:Your help will make a great difference.或:Your help will be of great importance.又如:It is wise to buy an up-to-date dictionary.可转换成:It makes sense to buy an up-to-date dictionary.再如:He had to solve all the problems himself.可转换成:He had to cope with all the problems himself, make a difference make sense cope with.这些词组在课本中出现较少, 但在实际运用中出现的频率较高, 若考生能恰当地使用此类词汇, 定会给阅卷老师留下深刻印象。

七 注意书写和卷面

如果说文章的语言和思想是文章的内涵, 那么书写与卷面是文章外在的形象。书写工整、字迹清楚、卷面整洁的文章, 让人赏心悦目, 无形中得分也相对较高。因此, 考生的书写要规范、认真, 字迹要清晰, 字体要大一些, 字母需匀称, 词、行间距要适当, 卷面要整洁, 避免涂改, 让阅卷老师一看就爱不释手, 体现出文章的外在美。

但是要真正提高自己的写作水平, 仅靠这些应试策略是不够的。考生需要平时加强训练, 注重语言的积累, 多分析一些高考各省的英语写作范文, 从中总结它们的一些特征, 以便考试中运用。最后, 预祝各位考生在高考中取得满意的成绩。

首先,要明确文章的体裁,是议论文、记叙文、说明文,还是应用文。再决定使用的人称和时态。例如,日记用过去时;说明文、议论文用一般现在时。2010年湖北卷的短文写作是读文写文的新文体,要求举一例子来说明微笑的功能,那么这个例子是自己经历过的,所以用过去时。再如2009年湖北卷要求回一封电子邮件说明两个成语的用法,“‘无所不为’应使用‘无所事事’”应使用一般现在时。而2008年湖北卷,买了一部手机,由于质量问题要求更换,主要用一般过去时,在表达自己的要点时则应穿插一般现在时:Therefore, I require that you send me a new one of the same model within a month.

二、加强句与句之间的衔接词,掌握基本体裁结构以及段落的常用语句

表示平行、对等或选择关系:and,both ... and,as well as,neither ... nor,either ... or,not only ... but also

表示转折关系:but,yet,however,nevertheless,in spite of,although,otherwise,while

表示对比关系:on the contrary,instead of,on the other hand,just like,unlike,in contrast

表示因果关系:so,for,therefore,as a result,because,owing to,due to,thanks to,on account of,because of

表示递进、强调:furthermore,what’s more,in addition,moreover,worse still, above all, certainly important of all,to make matters worse

三、增加文章亮点

除了使用连接词使得行文结构分明,文意贯通,而且还要尽可能采用较高级词汇和短语。例如:

四、高度重视书写

书写好不一定得高分,但高分者的书写一定美观。书写美观和书写糟糕者至少有3~4分的差距,这是影响英语写作得分的非智力因素中最重要的一点。因此,平时练习时同学们就应该加强书写,给高考作文增加得分点,做到万无一失。

一、规避高考议论文的写作误区

(一) 有论题, 没论点

一篇好的议论文, 一个精辟独到的中心论点是灵魂。既然要议论, 那就把话说明白了来讲道理, 如果单有论题没有论点, 人们往往很难理解你所表述的是什么, 更加不会信服你的观点。要明确表明自己的主张, 有确切的观点, 如果模糊不清, 若隐若现, 让人通篇找不出一个论点, 这样的文章毫无新意, 只是单纯的就论题泛泛而谈而已。

策略:在文章开头第一句或第一段用一句话确立自己的观点。

(二) 议论角度逻辑混乱

有些学生在文章中缺乏一定的逻辑思维能力, 层次不分明, 论述单一, 即便是写出了层次, 也难以分清各个层次的关系, 使得文章单一, 毫无生命力, 纯粹是为了生拉硬拽拓展文章内容罢了。或者是文章逻辑不严谨, 分论点之间探讨的角度重叠交叉, 没有说服力。在文章中, 议论的角度要严谨, 如果没办法对一个中心论点整合, 那么通篇议论文就显得混乱。

(三) 论据材料毫无新意

(四) 以叙代议

(一) 新颖独特的开头

一篇好文章的开头又称“凤头”、“龙头”, 一般议论文有开门见山法;名言警句法;设问置疑法;抒情引入法;还有承接材料和设置修辞法。然后最独具特色的便是“故事性开头”。故事性开头法是通过讲诉一个短小精悍的故事, 引出文章的论点。这种方法新颖独特, 容易引起阅卷老师的注意。然而, 值得注意的是, 要选择有利于引出论点的故事, 叙述不宜过长, 引出一个重要的观点就好。

(二) 层层递进的结构
