One achievement that makes me really proud is that my website, DailyStep English, has been nominated for “Best Website ” in the Macmillan Dictionary “Love English” Awards. This nomination is the result of a huge amount of really hard work in taking my original idea of learning English in simple steps, just one step per day, and turning it into an internationally successful e-learning tool, which is used around the world by many thousands of people.

Running DailyStep has been particularly difficult over the last year as we upgraded to a completely new website, built with different computer coding. This was tough for me as I had to learn a lot about how websites work in order to communicate with a team of developers. I had to learn to talk their language – the language of computers!

Another thing I take great pride in is that we are now recording all the dialogues in our audio lessons in American English as well as British English. The American actors we employ are taking great care to adapt the British language into natural American English. This means that my students can choose which accent to speak, and understand both accents, including the difference in vocabulary, especially idioms and phrasal verbs. The reason I am particularly proud of this aspect is that it makes the content of our lessons totally unique, and we and our American actors are constantly surprised at how different British and American English really are! It’s a matter of great pride for me that I have managed to make all this work, and it gives me a huge sense of achievement. However, the thing that makes me the most proud of all is the thought that so many people around the world have improved their English using my method.

This sample answer took around 2 minutes, which is the maximum time you need to speak without stopping in Part 2 of the IELTS speaking exam.

You should say:

where and when the photo was taken or painted

which room it is in

what there are in the photo or painting

and explain why you like it.

Actually, I have a few paintings in my home. My girlfriend says it’s beginning to look like an art gallery! I guess you could call me a bit of an art-aholic, though I’m certainly no connoisseur.

By far my favourite piece is a large oil painting on canvas that I picked up on my travels in Bali. I had to roll it up to get it back to China and once I got home I had a bespoke frame made for it. It depicts a tree or plant of some sort, using an array of colours, from deep blues to vivid yellows. The image is very simple, being formed from a number of different coloured dots.

At the moment it is the centerpiece of my living room, takes pride of place on the main wall behind my sofa. There are other pieces of art in there, including some small statues and figurines, but they are eclipsed by the large oil painting, which truly dominates the room. Every guest we have visit passes comment on it, often complimenting its vibrant colours or simple aesthetic beauty.

where it is

what it looks like

when you would like to live in

and explain why you would like to live in it.

Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve wanted to live in a house by the water. When I say water, I mean anywhere like the sea, a river or a lake. It doesn’t matter to me. I guess if it was by a river or a lake then I’d like the house to be right on the edge of the water so that I could have a boat moored up alongside and maybe go fishing. If it were by the sea, then I’d like to have a beach between the house and the water so I could go for walks along the coast and one day play with my kids in the sand.

The house itself could be any size, large or small would do for me as the location is what’s important. It would be cool to have a bedroom that faced the water and a balcony so that I could sit outside and have a great view. The interior of the house would be very modern, with top-of-the-range gadgets and appliances, such as a massive TV and a good cooker so that I could cook delicious meals.

I’ve no idea when I would be able to afford such a house, to be honest I think it’s a bit of a pipe-dream, but assuming I could I’d like to live there before I’m too old. I’d have to work hard first to save up lots of money, so I think middle-age is the most realistic target.

There are many true stories that people in my country know and talk about often. One such stories is the success story of Mr. Arther who is a living legend and is one of the top ten richest businessmen in the country. This story is about his determination, struggle, fight against adversity and finally the unmatched success he achieved.

The story starts with a 15 years old teenager who came to the capital city virtually with no capital and no one to turn to and started working as a very ignorable hawker. But the dream he had, the determination he had and the patience he showed was limitless. He had to face severe adversities and yet he never lost his faith and determination. With hard work and determination he continued his journey. He proved the fact that fortunes favoures the brave. He had never in his early life stopped from fulfilling his dream and continued his journey. Over time he has been rewarded with some success and he became a moderate business owner. He did not stop there. He continued to work even harder and envisioned a better dream. Thus he started piling up the success and from a moderate businessman he became one of the enviable businessmen in the country. Now his one of the top ten richest and successful persons in the country and all his fortunes were hard earned.

This story is a popular story in our country and people often refer to this story to give example of a successful man who has fought hard to achieve it. We often mention this story to inspire people and to advise them how to be determined and hardworking to achieve their dreams.

I first heard this story in my childhood from one of my school teacher and in my college level I read an article in a magazine regarding the hard work, struggle and success Mr. Arther got.

I think this is a very inspiring story that advices us to have our dreams and to work hard to achieve those dreams. If your determination and planning is correct and if you work accordingly to achieve it, no matter how many obstacles come, you would overcome it and this is the lesson this true story teaches me.

在谈到“Describe a hobby you have”这一话题时,一位考生是这样开场的:

Today I am going to talk about collecting postcards—a hobby that is both fascinating and financially rewarding. I would like to explain the basic kinds of collectible postcards, why they are so valuable, and how collectors buy and sell their cards.

It’s Saturday morning, and you are helping clean out your grandmother’s house. After working a while, you stumble upon a trunk, open it,and discover hundreds of old postcards.Thinking about getting to your driving lesson on time, you start tossing the cards into the trash can.Congratulations! You have just thrown away a year’s tuition.

在谈到“Describe a traffic jam you had experienced before”这一话题时,一位考生的开场白值得大家借鉴:

Traffic jams are more than a nuisance. They are a worldwide economic problem. In Guangzhou alone, they cost 12 million yuan each year.In major U.S.cities,they are responsible for more than 21 billion liters of wasted fuel and 68 billion dollars in lost productivity.Traffic jams will soon cost the British economy more than 20 billion pounds sterling a year.

As I speak today, there is a silent killer hiding near here.Who is this silent killer? Not a robber. Not a thief. Not a criminal. It is high blood pressure.

Fluency &Coherence

Grammatical Range &Accuracy

Vocabulary

Pronunciation

I agree/disagree with this point;表示举例的for example, a good case in point is that…等等。

在这部分,非常重要的一个能力就是要能够详尽地论述你的观点(build on your point of view)。

BBCLearnEnglish:www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish

LearnEnglish免费英语学习网站:learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/zh-hans/

VOA - Voice of America:learningenglish.voanews.com/

4.Practice, practice, practice!

You should say:

What was the event

When was the event

Why was it interesting

And explain how you felt about it

I was in the third grade at the local primary school in Montreal, Canada when the event took place. It was about participating in a quiz competition and I won the first prize there. I was awarded a certificate and a nice piece of water jar as a recognition. In fact, it was the first achievement of my life. During the school days, I have achieved many other prizes and in the later part of the college, I also secured a notable number of awards. But the memories of the first award in my school is still vivid in my mind. In fact, it was the beginning of the journey. Thank you for this interesting question. It reminds me of my school days. I am turning nostalgic. Here I will describe the event in brief.

It was an inter-class quiz competition. Since I had a neck to know about everything by reading books since an early age, I attempted at the event. My mom also inspired me to participate in the competition. Actually, she inspired me most to be at the competition and also told me that I do not have to win the event. She wanted me to increase my knowledge and experience from that early age. Finally, I took part there and it was a grand success for me. I won the first prize in that inter-class quiz competition. And since then, I have never been second in position in the other competitions I took part in.

The event is still memorable for many reasons. I was a girl of hardly seven years old. And it was really daring to express the intention to take part in a heavy competition. The questions were made based on categories. I selected two categories and correctly answered all the questions. When it was in a group, I tried to score the highest point for my group. The competition was tougher. Most of the participants were my seniors and I was the youngest competitor among them. So, many of them ignored me and when I won the prize, it was a nice reply from my part to them. Hence, the memories are still awake in my mind.

The feelings are sweet. I was a little girl then and now a matured lady. But this time, I have undergone a large number of sweet and sour experiences in my life. I have won in battles, I failed. I stood up again. But the beginning of this battle started with the winning of the quiz competition in my childhood. After that event, I have won many prizes in home and abroad. But the feelings are not the same as it was for the first quiz competition. I feel charmed for that event.

Describe a situation where you have to be polite

You should say:

What it is

What did you do to be polite

Why did you have to be polite

And explain how you felt about it afterwards

1-4月雅思口语新题part2范文之:礼貌的场合(a situation where you have to be polite)

Ok, well I would actually like to start by saying that I try to be polite in all situations, because that was basically how I was brought up, but if I was to choose a particular occasion when I had to be polite, then I’ll talk about the time I went to a friend’s house for their birthday party.

And as for when it was, well I suppose it must have been about three or four months ago, and basically what happened was that a friend of mine invited me, along with a few other of his friends, to his house for dinner to celebrate his birthday with him. And when we got there, we were given a nice welcome by his parents, who then offered us some drinks and took us through to the living room to wait for a bit while they finished preparing the dinner. Anyway, it was worth the wait, because the dinner was fantastic, and by the end of it, I was absolutely stuffed!

So regarding why I had to be polite, well, I think it goes without saying that whenever you go to someone else’s house, you should always be polite, you know, it’s common sense, because I mean, if someone’s kind enough to invite you to their home and treat you to food and drink, the least you can do is be polite and well-mannered, and if you’re not, then chances are that you won’t get invited back!

You know, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced times when someone hasn’t behaved very well when they’ve been a guest at our home, and usually when that happens, the first thing we say to each other when that person’s left is, “there’s no way they’re ever coming back!”. Of course for young children it’s different, but for adults there’s no excuse at all. And if you do make the effort to be polite, then it makes a big difference, because then you’ll leave a very good impression and consequently be welcome as a guest again in the future.

You should say:

whose wedding it was

who was there

what happened

and explain how you felt.

Today, I’m going to share with you a wedding of my friend that I attended. Last month, I received a wedding invitation from my old friend from primary school. The wedding was held at the beginning of April. We have been close to each other for over 15 years, therefore, I definitely wanted to attend at all costs, due to the fact that we hadn’t had a chance to get together for ages.

Her wedding ceremony took place at The Sum Villa, located near West Lake. It was decorated impressively with a lot of lights, candles and flowers around the room. There were three glamorous wedding photo albums, showing tables right at the center of the official gate. The principal colors were likely to be white and violet, so all the guests were requested to wear clothes with one or both of these colors. Personally, I wore a white dress with small accessories.

It was meant to be a casual wedding, which I had never attended before. It turned out to be refreshingly informal. One of the best moments that really touched me was when the bridegroom sang a song for the bride and all the guests sang along with him. Also, he made a photo clip by himself marking their 4-year romance, to show to everyone in the room. It was no surprise that everyone clapped their hands and cheered them. Of course, I was no exception.

It was also a good chance to catch up with my old friends and we all had a great time. We definitely made the most of the occasion and took a lot of pictures with the bride and the bridegroom. I gave my friend a gift to celebrate her wedding day. I had given much thought to my wedding present when I was choosing it, and I wished her lots of happiness for the future.
