举个例子,比如这个话题“Describe a time when you had some medicine.”
第一个方面:是否喜欢花,“Do you like flowers?” 举个例子,考生在回答完“I love flowers”之后接着说 “ I normally send flowers to my mum on mother’s day”.
接下来的第二个方面:花的使用性,“How do people use flowers in your country?”
1. 用来装饰( decorative purpose)在中国有许多家庭喜欢摆放一些花在客厅或是自己的卧室里,觉得赏心悦目,因此我们可以告诉考官:“ People like to decorate their houses with flower arrangements, they create soothing atmosphere for you and your family members.”
而表达爱意的花当属玫瑰,它代表着爱情,rose is the most helping and element which conveys heartiest feeling。
所以人们对花的利用不仅仅是在欣赏上,并且还可以用来泡茶,floral tea does benefit our well-being and beauty。

You should say:
what it was
what you have done
why you have chosen this person(s) to work with
and explain what you did to finish the project.
Just last month we finished a project at the university, it was a research project which involved various entities both here in India and abroad and communication was one of the most challenging aspects of it.
I think there were about 15 people in total in the team. It was coordinated from France by an academic research foundation based there. We were investigating various aspects of environmentally friendly air transport; looking at ways to reduce noise and fuel consumption, and the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The project dealt with researching possible methods of improving current engine technology and involved an in depth study of flight physics as applied to most commercial airliners nowadays, mainly based on lightweight structures and possible changes or improvements which could be made.
The long term aim of the project was to evaluate and then test some completely new types of aircraft structures and concepts.
I think it helped me develop on a professional level more than on a personal level, although I did get a lot of opportunity to interact with different people from various different countries and practice my English a lot. But professionally it was very challenging and very interesting for me. It is the first international research project I have been involved in so it was quite exciting as well.
As I said, there were people from France, Germany, the UK, the USA and some other countries. We used to have regular teleconferences to discuss the progress of the project and any problems we encountered, share research results and information, and discuss possible solutions and areas of further investigation. I was working closely with one of my senior professors here at the university who is very experienced in this field of engineering.

I have a younger sister and I love to spend time with her. She is also fond of me and loves to be with me always.
I am 20 and Georgina, my younger sister, is a teen now and I prefer to spend most of my time with her when I am at home. She is in her secondary grades and loves drawing images of nature, and landscapes. Sometimes, I instruct her on drawing images, solving her math problems, complete her homework and many more. She prefers to be with me as I do not behave impolite with her and try to make everything simple to her. She believes that I am the smartest brother in the world as I solve almost all of her problems. On the other side, I also miss her when I am out home for my academic activities in college. She waits eagerly for me round the day and when I get back at home, she jumps on me. She never leaves me alone at home and I also prefer to be with her always.
She is an amicable person and owns a very smart and intelligent brain. She is tall with her dark brown eyes. She is highly kind in nature and loves to make friends in her real life. But she has one negative aspect. She is a bit hot tempered as well. Nobody knows when she will be angry and mostly she turns angry with the petty issues. Once I made late to pick her from her school and she did not talk with me for the remaining part of the day. At first, it was difficult for me and later I discovered my mistake and apologised to her, bought some chocolates to resume the relation. But she is generous in nature and loves to share everything with people. Often she shares her foods with her friends and classmates in the school which I am proud of indeed.
Both of us love to watch movies. Whenever we have enough time, we start watching movies and she prefers to watch the action movies of Hollywood and I also prefer such movies. Besides, I like to read and I read out loud the stories that I prefer most. She appears to be a bored with my attempt of reading as my pronunciation of English is not in the right tone (after her opinion). In that case, I ask her to complete the story and she dumps my proposal. Sometimes both of us go for fishing at the adjacent lake. My fishing luck is not as good as her- she gets fishes often and I do not. Moreover, we also participate in chess. She is a great chess player and it becomes tougher for me to beat her. Before going to school every day, she comes to me for remembering all the activities to be done in the evening together.
In my family, I am the elder son of my parents while she is the second and smallest. The age difference is not so much between us. I like to spend most of the times with her for many reasons. The first thing is that she is like my best friend. I share all of my events with her as like she does with me. I like to share my foods, my attires, my money … everything. On the other side, she also feels for me. She misses me always and as her brother, I am like her world. My parents always adore the cordial relationship between us and I think they are happy too. My dad is a businessman and passes most of the time out of home and mom being a homemaker remains busy with the domestic chores always. So, we two do not have anyone to accompany us and thus I like to spend most of the times of the day with my younger sister.
Describe a historical building you have been to
You should say:
Where it is
What it looks like
What it is used for now
What you learned there
And how you felt about this historical building

The central Bank building is the one that really impressed me. I was then almost 17 years old when I first this building and I still remember that I became amazed watching and wondering about it.
10-15 stories building are quite common in our town but the 75 storied central bank building is really different. Not only it is higher than most other buildings but it also possesses an eye-catchy architectural design which is bound to absorb any one’s attention. From far it will only give you the impression of a futuristic mega structure but if you observe the building from nearby, you will see the real beauty of it.
It looks like every inch of it has been drawn before building it. This building is a fine piece of architecture that prominently announces its presence. When I looked at the top of this building I got the impression that it is endless and has made its way over the sky. The long round clock in from of this building ticks twice to let the city dwellers know its presence.
This central bank building is situated near the National Museum of the city. From a far away, it looks like a pathway to the sky and from nearby it seems like a massive yet beautifully designed architectural building.
Is it important to conserve old buildings? Why?
A. The old buildings are the representatives of the history. They tell the past stories of thousand years and let us know about different issues like how they lived, how their living styles were, what they did, what sort of construction style they had and more other necessary information. If the historical buildings are not preserved, people will be unable to learn about their pasts. It is important to know about the origin, the forefathers and the past in order to live with dignity. If the important buildings are not preserved, the national history will go under oblivion. Moreover, the young generation of a country will be unaware of its history and the greatness of the nation. Usually, the old buildings contain the relics and people develop their idea over their past which is another cause for preserving the old establishments.
Is the history useful for the coming generations? Why?
A. History is always useful. It teaches us different important lessons and most of the people who have succeeded in life have taken their learning from the history. So, history is also useful for the coming generations. It may happen that they are in some sort of trouble and if they look back in history, they will find that there were some other people who also had the same troubles and got rid in any specific way. Thus, history helps them to get out of any troublesome situation. Moreover, if they are in any critical situations, they could take help of history, but it should be remembered that history does always not refer the events old about 100 years.
What is the difference between houses built in the past and now?
The basic difference between the house of past and current is space. Earlier, the houses were made more spacious and covered large spaces to be built. But with the increasing population, the houses are made in small space and the number of houses is on the increase. Moreover, the past houses were designed after different distinctive styles. There were ample spaces for recreation and entertainment for the residents. But in the current days, apartments are being made with lower space and even at times they do not have proper walking space in the staircase. Earlier, the houses covered horizontal space but now they are vertical.
What are the differences in sizes of houses? Why?
The house sizes are different for various reasons and the top most cause is the increased population around the world. To meet the demand of the growing population, the house sizes are becoming small. Currently, it is almost impossible to build a house covering a large space for the living of a family in a comfortable manner rather the large space could be used to build apartment blocks or residential towers that could house several families instead of one family. Accommodation is one of the greatest challenges in the coming days and already people are experiencing the problem in different cities of the world.
Do you prefer a big or a small house? Why?
I prefer living in a big house because the environment of a big house is comfortable. The houses are made in such manner that light and air could pass easily. Moreover, the houses allow the people exercising some hobbies (I like gardening) and if there are spaces, the residents could make gardens before the house which will increase the beauty of the house. But if it is a small house, the options are rare. Moreover, the architectural style of the big houses is usually very attractive and good looking which attracts me more. But the small houses are made commercially to accommodate people, not to exercise their hobbies.
? Describe an important historical building in your city?
You should say
Where it is?
What it looks like?
What it is used for
And explain how you feel about it?
Sample answer:
I was born and raised in Shanghai, as you know, a metropolis and international city like Shanghai doesn’t have many historical building compared to many ancient cities in China. But there is still one important historical building also a tourist resort that is worth mentioning, “ Peace Hotel” which is located on the west side of the Huangpu River. If you have the chance to spend a night in this hotel, you will be able to enjoy a feast of views of the enchanting Huangpu River and the astonishing light show from the skyscrapers in the Lujiazui financial center on the other side of the river. The Peace Hotel itself is both a multi-functional modern hotel and a historical building. The seemingly forlorn appearance from outside doesn’t belie its profound and elaborative nature as well as a period of a turbulent past it represents. “The Peace Hotel” is suited on two sides of the road, on the north side is the new Peace Hotel and on the south side is the old Peace Hotel which is nowadays merely an exhibition gallery and museum. The “ Peace Hotel” still remained the most famous hotel and restaurant in Shanghai. In its past, it used to be the only residence for those foreign ambassadors and celebrities. Say like General George Marshall, Charles Chaplin and George Bernard Shaw, ect. The highlight of the Peace Hotel is its stylish Jazz bar its Jazz band. Back in 80’s, it used to be the place where numerous of political and governmental heads enjoy themselves while one of the most famous Asian jazz band playing their classic jazz music. For me, I think the “Peace Hotel” is the hotel where you can trace back to the olden days and embrace the vintage feeling of the old shanghai, meantime, you will find yourself blended in and being a part of these golden memory.
? Do you think that the architecture style are the same in your country?
You know, China is melting pot of different cultures so that’s why the architecture style is versatile too. Geographically, the architecture style in different parts of china are quite distinctive. In the north, the architecture style tend to be more like official mansion and building, say like quadrangle, the most famous residence of the folks in north. In the south, the cities is famous for being surrounded by little creeks and linked by stone bridge, people are more likely to live in small houses that is blue and gray.
? Why the architecture style should be the same?
Take an example of the city Paris, the architecture style of which is basically the same and represent an incomparable beauty of symmetry. If the architecture of a city remain in the same style, it will surely leave a deep impression on people from the world. When they think of Paris, they will think of the stylish and parallel style of the building and the yellow-colored appearance of the city. On the contrary, if the city is mixed up with different colors and styles, people will hardly have any precise impression of it and the only word come to their minds when they try to recall their travel memory of it ,is “Chaos”
? Should the government supervise the architecture style? Why?
I think It’s really a tough question. On one side if the government or the relevant ramifications do nothing to lead to trend of the architecture style and let people to build whatever in their own ways, we will definitely witness a chaotic and asymmetric building style of the city. On the other hand, controlling and supervising the way people choosing their architecture style is not fair for the free willingness and democracy of the folks. From my perspective, I think the government should at least supervise the most symbolic and outstanding constructions and buildings of a city, espeicially in the downtown area, cuz they represent for the style and rhythm of such city. But for the rest of the buildings in the residential or rural area, I think people have rights to decide their own style.

Travelling
1. Do you like traveling?
Yes, I like traveling. Firstly, I believe that traveling is always educational. What I mean to say is that the people that you meet along the way are usually interesting. Secondly, I wish I were able to travel more. For example, I have not traveled to a foreign country yet.
2. How do you usually travel?
In China I like to travel by train. Allow me to explain. Firstly, when I travel by train I am able to see more of China. In addition, the trains in China are convenient and comfortable. For example, I can travel to any city, and I am able to sleep on the train. Lastly, traveling on a train is a social event as well. For example, one can chat with other passengers about where they are going, and why they are traveling.

I traveled to Dalian last month. My parents and I traveled there by train. We went to see my grandmother who has been ill lately. I enjoyed the trip as I have not been to Dalian before. Moreover, the city has left me a deep impression for its fresh air and clean environment.

1、西方人(主要指有一定修养的欧美人)在与他人交流时,比较多地使用情态动词:can、could、may、might、would等等;情态动词(Model Verbs)又称为情态助动词(Model Auxil-iaries),表示说话人的语气,可表达建议、要求、可能和意愿等,使得说话的语气比较有礼貌;
但是如果你直接用英语说“Please reply to me by Monday. Thank you.” 而如果这样说:“Could you please reply to me by Monday? Thank you.”
3、比较多地使用虚拟语气,比如would (had) rather、would (had) sooner、would (just) as soon等等,或者在陈述句中使用过去式表示虚拟语气,或者使用if等引导的从句表示“可能性”。这样说话可以使人感觉表达者是在考虑达到最佳的结果或方式,尽量避免不好的结果或方式,或者推测可能出现的问题,并找出可能解决的办法;
5、说话要以他人为中心,以肯定他人、赞同他人为前提,让自己显得谦卑、渺小。说完之后,还要附带一句“Thank you”或“Thanks”。其实,这种礼貌的表达方式是来自古老的中国。这是东西方文化的共同点,也是为人处世的基本原则。了解英语中礼貌的表达方式,尽量让自己的英语表达更有礼貌,融入社会;
Good morning. Good afternoon. I’m very well. Thank you. Pleased to meet you. I beg your pardon. What exactly would you like to know? Perhaps I can begin by telling you about… Recently, I’ve been studying at … Recently, I’ve been working at … I’ve been studying English for (1 year)... The reason I’m taking the test is because … Would you like to know about …? Before that I studied at … Before that I worded at … At the moment I’m studying at … At the moment I’m working at … Have I answered your question? Is there anything else you wish to know?

Thank you very much to let me talk about this cue card topic. The story that I am going to talk about is a fascinating story on how an eight year’s old kid saved more than 500 people from possible fatal casualty. I read this story a year ago in a daily newspaper.
This story was published in a popular newspaper that I used to read every day at that time and it was featured as a story of bravery and exemplary one.
An eight years old boy was playing with some other kids in the evening near a rail junction and suddenly noticed that a part of the rail track was severely damaged. While other kids ignored that and returned to their houses, this particular boy was different and he went home and persuaded his father that something bad is going to happen. He came back to the train junction with his father and took a great deal of hassle to convince the rail officers to actually go to visit the damage. They officers were reluctant to do so and thought it was a child’s imagination or lack of comprehension. But the boy was adamant and with his father, they were able to finally convince them that something terrible might happen if they do not take prompt actions. When all of them saw the severe damage on the rail track, it was almost the time for a passenger rail to pass this junction using this particular rail track. It was evening and very few people were in the station. The railway authority understood that repairing the harmed railroad was impossible. They immediately informed the nearby station and warned them so that the train does not leave that junction.
Next day many rail supervisors and employees visited the place and they were amazed by the bravery the boy showed to save people from an approaching peril.
I followed the news story and next day it made the headline of every local newspaper. As far I remember the boy was given many gifts by the rail authorities as well as the local administration.
The story was an exemplary one to remind us how a small sacrifice and bravery can save others. The eight years old boy showed his utmost intelligence, heroism and prompt actions to save people from unforeseeable dangers. The event was so touchy that it went viral in a day and that hit the headline of many newspapers. I did not watch TV that time, but I am sure that was also in TV news.

Describe something interesting you learnt from the Internet.
You should say:
what you learnt
which website you learnt it from
how you learnt it
and explain why you think what you learnt was interesting.
My friend Amy is a travel-holic and is constantly on the road. When I told her my trip plan to Indonesia, she introduced me this travel website called Couch surfing. Technically, it doesn’t tell you anything about your destinations. But what it does is it lists the names and profiles of people who are happy to show you around their city and provide local perspectives.
How it works is simple. You just send a request to potential hosts and if it is accepted, then you can get to sleep on their couch, or sometimes in their bed. What’s more attractive is they are all for free. The aim of the website wasn’t to make money but to provide a platform for people who are interested in exchanging their languages, cultures, and making new friends from different backgrounds.
The most valuable lesson I learnt from the site is to share. After staying for two days at my Indonesian host’s place, I was so impressed by the family’s hospitality. Even though they didn’t have much, they offered me all they had. My stay with them completely changed the way I treat strangers and my view toward sharing.

Describe a visitor in your home)
I’m going to talk about an occasion when a very close friend of mine visited where I live.
He is a Chinese person. His real name is Xin Lin, but we usually call him by his English name, which is Steven. He was studying in the same university with me in England when we did our Master’s last year, and we both lived in the same flat in the university halls of residence. We were so close with each other because we spent a lot of time cooking and talking with each other, but we haven’t met for a few months since we left England.
So the occasion was a month ago when he visited Vietnam to travel. He had never been to my country although China is right next to Vietnam. So, he decided to come to my country to visit me.
We were really excited to meet each other again, and he was excited as well to come to my house for the first time. I invited him for dinner, and I myself cooked something very special for him, which was a traditional Vietnamese dish. We talked a lot during the meal, and we reminded each other of the memories we shared in England.
