一、谚语在定语从句教学中的运用
1.关系代词that在定语从句中指人或物

试论大学英语教学中的谚语教学 篇7
笔者从事大学英语教学已有数年，在教学中从个别谚语的引用中逐渐体会到谚语的重要价值。近年来开始有意识地在课堂教学中介绍英语谚语，坚持从第一次课开始，尽量结合课堂教学内容，结合学生的实际，选取积极向上，利于成长的谚语。这种方式受到学生的欢迎，收到了良好的成效。总的来说，笔者体会到，谚语对教学的促进作用主要体现在如下几个重要方面。
一、激发学习兴趣
英语谚语结构紧凑，韵律和谐，借助于头韵、押韵、对仗等多种方式表达思想，这些谚语的补充能使学生体会到语言之美，从而促使学生主动地诵读和记忆它们，变苦学为乐学，有利于英语语感的培养。例如：
Man proposes, God disposes.(谋事在人，成事在天。)
Out of sight, out of mind.(眼不见，心不烦。)
A fall into a pit, a gain in your wit.(吃一堑，长一智。)
More haste, less speed.(欲速则不达。)
教师如果利用这些材料精心组织活动，不仅可以用于语音、语调练习，还可以进行听说写多项能力训练，以提高语言能力，而且可利用谚语组织丰富的课外活动，例如进行以谚语为主题的演讲比赛等。
二、巩固语言知识
语言知识的核心是词汇和句子结构。拥有一定量的单词和掌握基本的句子结构是学好语言的前提。除了英语教材外，谚语是扩大词汇、学习句子结构的较好的辅助材料。熟读熟记一些谚语，既可以帮助学生扩大词汇量，又可以使学生牢固掌握英语的句子结构，吸收语法规则，学会地道的表达方式。
例如在学习practice, pride, pour等单词时，我引入以下谚语。
Practice makes perfect.(熟能生巧。)
Pride goes before a fall.(骄兵必败。)
It never rains but it pours.(不鸣则已，一鸣惊人。)
通过谚语的使用，学生在句子中更容易掌握单词的运用。
适当的谚语为英语语法教学提供了非常有利的工具，在语法教学中适当地引入谚语，能使学生觉得语法学习不再那么枯燥单调。例如，在讲到定语从句时，有些句子不好理解，就可以给学生以下句子。
He who laughs last laughs best.(谁笑到最后，谁笑得最好。)
God helps those who help themselves.(天助自助者。)
The one that suffers much knows much.(磨难多，见识广。)
在复习比较级时，下面的谚语就能发挥它们的作用。
Facts speak louder than words.(事实胜于雄辩。)
The higher up, the greater the fall.(爬得高，摔得惨。)
实践证明，通过这样的方式，学生首先能从心理上解除对学习语法规则的恐惧和排斥情绪，从而能比较好地掌握语法知识，并进行灵活运用。因此，如果教师在课堂教学中能坚持引入精彩的英语谚语指导学生学习，长此以往，对学生的口头表达和英语写作就会大有裨益。
三、了解西方文化
英语谚语集西方各民族文化于一体，是我们了解英语民族社会历史、东西方文化差异的钥匙。通过英语谚语，学生可以了解英语国家的宗教历史、风土人情、文化典故，从而增强跨文化交际的能力。例如：Too much curiosity lost Paradise.(过于好奇就会失去乐园)和Forbidden fruit is the sweetest.(禁果格外香)都源于《圣经》中亚当和夏娃的故事。两人由于好奇心太重，偷吃禁果，结果被逐出伊甸园。再如：在英语谚语中有不少与罗马(Rome)有关的谚语：When in Rome do as the Romans do.(入乡随俗);All roads lead to Rome.(条条道路通罗马);Rome was not built in a day.(罗马不是一天建成的)。如果了解历史的话，我们就知道，公元43年，英格兰被罗马征服，成为罗马的一个行省，于是社会生活随之出现罗马化的倾向。罗马人的占领长达400年之久，因此我们可以从今天的谚语中，发现深深的古罗马文化的印记。
英语谚语的学习，可以帮助学生较好地熟悉英语民族的风俗习惯、文化背景。学生如果只了解句子的表面意思，对文字所承载的文化背景不了解的话，就必然会影响对句子的正确理解。谚语的丰富的背景知识，又能加深对英语语言的学习、理解和领悟。
四、促进品德修养
英语谚语不仅有着较高的艺术性，而且蕴藏着深刻的教育意义。在英语教学中，如果教师能够根据课文的内容有选择地补充相应的谚语，既能帮助学生更好地理解课文意思，又能对学生进行思想道德教育，起到勉励学生，帮助他们养成正确的人生观和价值观的作用。例如在讲解话题为“时间”的文章时，可补充谚语：Time and tide wait for no man.(时不我待);Time cannot be won again.(时光一去不复返)。有了这些谚语的补充，学生们就更加明确时间的重要性，并进一步增强时间观念。再如当课文的主题是围绕“友谊”时，就可引入下面的谚语：A friend in need is a friend indeed.(患难见真情);A faithfu friend is hard to find.(知音难觅)，这样不仅能让学生深化对课文的理解，还能珍惜友谊，建立正确的友谊观。
总之，在英语教学中穿插谚语教学，既能激发学生的学习兴趣，调动英语学习的积极性，促进师生的互动交流，又能让学生学到原汁原味的英语，丰富英语背景文化知识，体会到东西方文化的差异，提高学生的思想道德素质，达到教书育人的目的。

英语谚语通常采用头韵、押韵、对仗和重复等表现手法，通过比喻、夸张、对比等修辞手法来喻事明理，表达思想。例如：头韵（alliteration）：Look before leap. Manners make the man. 押韵(rhyme): Haste makes waste. No pains, no pains. Health is better than wealth. 对仗(simple balanced structure): Art is long, life is long. You buy land, you buy stones. you buy meat, you buy bones.重复(repetion): Diamonds cut diamonds. 一、英语谚语在词汇教学中的应用
词汇是语言的三大要素之一。语言知识的核心是词汇和句子结构。研究表明，学生在无语境中孤立地记忆词汇，效果不佳。而把词汇放置在语境中记忆，则记忆更长久，效果明显。英语谚语把词汇和句法完美地结合起来，是记忆、巩固、扩大词汇，弄清句子结构良好的材料。例如：我们通过学习这些英语谚语，就能有效记忆很多单词。A good book is the best of friends, A good medicine tastes bitter. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. A little pot is soon hot. Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Facts speak louder than words. Failure is the mother of success. Kill two birds with one stone．Many hands make light work. Pride goes before a fall.教师要在词汇教学中精心备课，精选与所教词汇联系密切的英语谚语，有机地应用到教学中。这样记忆词汇达到了词不离句，句句有意，句法精练，具有事半功倍的效果。
二、英语谚语可用来巩固语法知识
英语谚语以句子为单位，简洁精练，语法结构正确、规范严谨。在英语课堂教学中，能将所教的语法、句式结构等通过谚语呈现出来，使学生对知识一目了然，学习兴趣盎然，又便于记忆。如：学习定语从句、宾语从句、状语从句时，我们可以引入这些英语谚语来帮助学生理解和记忆语法规则。He who makes no mistakes makes nothing．He who doesn’t reach the Great Wall isn’t a true man. All that glitters is not gold. Don't put off till tomorrow what should be done today. Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles you. Where there′s a will， there′s a way．While there′s life，there′s hope．
三、英语谚语可用来渗透西方文化，达到跨文化交际的目的
语言是文化的载体，谚语作为语言的精髓，与一个民族特定的历史、经济、文化、生活、风俗习惯、宗教信仰密不可分。在课堂教学中，利用英语谚语帮助学生了解西方的价值观念、等级观念、时间观念、宗教信仰，以及东西方文化差异，扩大知识面，开拓视野。例如：学习谚语Forbidden fruit is the sweetest.就了解了《圣经》中亚当和夏娃两人，偷吃禁果，被逐出伊甸园的故事。如果不了解英语谚语An apple a day keeps the doctor away.就无从欣赏下面的幽默“I am worried , my daughter is running around with that new doctor in town.” “Feed her an apple a day.”
英语教学中穿插英语谚语，能够激发学生对英语学习的兴趣，增强英语学习的积极性，使英语教学从乏味、呆板的困境中开辟出新的道路，变得生气勃勃、轻松愉快。
四、英语谚语具有深刻的思想性，它能启迪学生智慧，提高他们的思想修养
谚语是人类智慧的结晶，一般具有生动形象、喻义明显、富于哲理。在教学中，教师应积极有效地应用英语谚语，渗透思想品德教育，这也是英语课程标准的基本要求之一。
在学校教育中，一味地强调道德要求往往效果不佳。对学生高尚品质的培养，不能简单化和教条化。在英语教学中借助谚语来教育学生，潜移默化，能陶冶学生的情操，培养其高尚的人格。比如，在给新生上课时，便可以用Well begun, half done. A bad beginning makes a bad ending.作为开场白。鼓励学生努力学习时，可以引用：Knowledge is power. Genius is nothing but labor and diligence.劝诫学生珍惜时间、抓住机遇时便可引用：Opportunity seldom knocks twice. Time and tide wait for no man. It′s never late to learn. A young idler, an old beggar.希望学生脚踏实地、注意行动时可用：Actions speak louder than words . Easier said than done.教育学生诚实守信时可用：As a man sows, so he shall reap. Honesty is the best policy．
总之，英语谚语在课堂的恰当应用是学生学习和扩大词汇的有效途径，为学生了解英美文化背景打开了一扇窗口，学生在学习英语谚语的过程就是将知识、思想、智慧和情感交织为一体，能得到启发，受到熏陶，真正达到了教书育人的目的。
