大家都知道, 同英语四、六级考试一样, 英语应用能力A级考试在词汇量上对学生也有一定的要求。而初中起点高职生的特点是词汇极其匮乏, 词汇量小的可怜。他们如果想顺利通过英语应用能力A级考试, 就必须首先通过词汇这一关。

很多老师再给出例句时大多习惯用教师用书或其他辅导书上的原句, 这样做的弊端有很多, 其一, 大多数学生手里都有相同的参考书, 他们会觉得老师给出的例句没有新意, 有时还会对老师的工作态度和专业水平产生质疑;其二, 参考书上的例句大多与学生的实际联系得不够紧密, 引不起学生的兴趣。这时候如果老师能够给出与你所教学生的生活实际紧密相连且绝对独特、经典、富有幽默感的例句, 肯定会大大提高学生学习英语的积极性。

一、 联系学生实际来举例

比如:我所教班级里大部分学生毕业后都打算参加雅思培训, 过了雅思考试后有机会想出国就业。因此, 我在讲不定式作定语时举了这样一个例句:Your dream/ambition to pass the IELTS exam and then go abroad will surely come true as long as you work hard now.同时复习了其近义表达fulfill / realize one’s dream; 但是也有很多学生对毕业后是去参加雅思培训还是直接去实习这个问题比较迷茫, 不知如何是好。因此, 在讲到bi in a dilemma (处于两难境地) 这个短语时我给学生们举了下面这个例句:I know some of you are in a dilemma now, because you are not sure whether to take the IELTS training class or to find an internship after you graduate from school.例句给出后还可以就势给学生提出具有参考价值的良好建议, 既使学生巩固了所学词汇, 又振奋了人心, 鼓舞了学生的学习士气。学生怎能不感兴趣?

二、 用学生亲身经历之事举例

如:在练习in the form of (以……的形式) 短语时, 给出这样一个例句:你们是以开晚会并包饺子的形式过的今年的元旦 (You celebrated the New Year’s Eve in the form of having a party and making dumplings.) 。此时刚好是学生过完元旦的第三天, 对当时晚会的情景仍然记忆犹新。巩固了新学的短语, 同时引导学生复习了所学话题“如何包饺子” (Could you tell us how to make dumplings in English?) .这样学生会觉得所学英语离生活很近, 学了就能用, 有亲切感。

例如:在巩固make a name of oneself (出名) 和hit the headline (站头条儿) 两个短语时, 我给学生举例这样一个例子:小沈阳在2009年春节联欢晚会上出了名, 第二天, 有关他的新闻在报纸和网络上占了头条儿 (Xiao Shenyang made a name of himself during the 2009 Spring Festival Gala and the next day news about him on newspapers and internet hit the line.) ;又如:在讲到短语be annoyed with sb for sth (因……对某人感到恼火) 时举例如下:将近九万观众坐在鸟巢里等待着刘翔的精彩表现, 刘翔却因脚伤退出比赛走出了赛场, 为此人们对他很是恼火 (Many people were very much annoyed with Liu Xiang for his dropping out and walking out of the Bird Nest with nearly 90, 000 spectators sitting in their seats waiting for his excellent performance.) .

有效选用例句的方法有很多, 比如还可以用生活常识、富有教育意义的事情或利用幽默、对比来举例, 等等。如果教师在课堂上能完全脱离开学生手里都有的参考书, 并能做到幽默地脱口而出, 学生肯定会对教师扎实的功底佩服得五体投地, 自然会“亲其师, 信其道”, 那么作为教师的你最终将收到极佳的课堂教学效果。

本教学实践研究的结果是:英语词汇教学中例句的有效选用在有效地激发学生学习词汇的兴趣及学习英语的热情方面收到了良好的效果, 对提高初中起点高职生应用能力A级通过率产生了积极的影响, 这种教学方法可以推广在初中起点高职生英语词汇的教学中。

摘要:在英语词汇教学中, 例句的有效选用至关重要。通过对近十年的英语能力A级考试词汇部分试题的实践研究发现, 学生对那些实用的、与自己生活贴近的句子非常感兴趣, 对这类句子中考察的词汇印象非常深刻, 记忆效果非常好。因此, 教师在平常的词汇教学中如果所给例句就是学生身边的目所能及、耳能所闻、心有所感的东西, 那么不仅能让学生在最短的时间里掌握词汇的正确使用, 而且还能大大提高学生学习英语的兴趣和热情, 从而对英语应用能力A级通过率产生积极的影响。

PRETCO-A级考试是高职高专院校和成人高专院校的大学生需参加的一门英语等级考试,是衡量学生是否达到高职高专英语教学标准的重要尺度之一,因而备受高校师生们重视。PRETCO-A级考试(以下简称A级考试)题型中的匹配题(占总分5%)、翻译题(20%)、作文(15%)以及部分听力题都触及到了商务英语知识的考察。对于非商务英语专业的绝大多数高职高专学生来说,要想顺利通过A级考试,掌握商务英语知识点至关重要,因此ESP教学怎样在高职高专英语课堂上有效开展日渐受到重视。

一直以来,大学英语作为高职高专非英语专业学生的必修基础课程之一,使用的教材侧重于培养学生的听、说、读、写能力,ESP课程并没有特别开设,只是在触及到所学课文相关知识时而附带提及。然而A级考试相较于之前的大学英语三级考试更注重学生在将来职场处理相关工作事务的能力,如近年来写作题型中的招聘信、商务电子邮件等,学生因未接受过ESP课程的特别培训得分一直较低,A级考试过级率普遍不够理想。课堂中开设ESP知识教授的环节迫在眉睫,我们需要科学系统的教授学生商务英语知识,培养他们的商务英语解题能力。

一、A级考试背景下ESP教学问题

1. 教师ESP知识的局限性

高校英语教师有着很牢的专业知识根基,但是对于行业英语也就是专门用途英语有深刻研究的比例并不高。ESP教学要求高校教师不仅要有精湛的英语专业知识,还应该掌握所授ESP涉及的行业专业知识。上好一门ESP课程并不容易,需要教师花很多心思与精力备课,查阅各种资料;课堂上的突发情况和应对学生的提问更需要平时对英语知识和ESP知识的精确与深度掌握;大学生的课后作业也极富创造力,在学生对专业问题各抒己见的时候,教师也需要修正学生的错误,肯定正确点……由于缺乏相应的知识体系建构,很多教师在ESP教学时捉襟见肘。

2. 学生缺乏学习热情

高职高专学生对待公共课的热情普遍比不上专业课。他们认为大学英语、语文、思政等公共课程缺乏新鲜感,而专业却是自己选择的感兴趣的方向。加之ESP的英语专业性很强,一旦之前有知识点疏漏,后续衔接的问题便层出不穷,直接影响课程的学习效果。

3. 公共英语课程课时设置不够

由于英语在2016年即将退出高考的历史舞台,英语学习热逐渐下降。许多高校正酝酿删减大学英语课程学时,加大专业课程的学时设置。在现有条件下,高职高专院校的大学英语课程普遍设置在每周四课时,內容多,时间紧,ESP授课效果不佳。一旦删减学时,加之“学英热”的降温,教学更会雪上加霜。

4. 高校学生专业的限制

高职高专院校的课程有着很强的职业针对性,学习英语专业、商务专业的学生凤毛麟角。院校不可能就单一的A级考试开设专门的商务英语知识教学课程。考试所涉商务英语知识只能在大学英语课程中学习,缺乏系统性。

二、A级考试背景下ESP教学对策

1.加强师资队伍建设

要提高教师的ESP技能,一方面可以定期送骨干教师外出进修,鼓励他们去深造相关学位或研修班;另一方面高职高专院校应更多地引进“双师型”教师,鼓励学源结构多元化。

2.活跃课堂气氛,激发学生兴趣

课堂教学时,应摆脱传统的教授形式,鼓励学生在课前预习,查找资料,独立进行案例分析;课上讲案例与生活实际相联系,以讲故事的形式直观教授,更加生动形象地讲知识传递给学生,也可以给学生更多的机会对之前准备的资料发表看法,分小组讨论。师生-生生间的教学信息加速传递,课堂气氛更加活跃,学生对于英语学习兴趣增加,特别是对有着“新鲜感”的ESP知识的学习。

3.根据教学大纲重新规划授课学时与教学内容

紧贴教学大纲,对教材结构优化,构建更加系统严密的教材体系,科学有效地教学。课余开放英语演讲、辩论比赛、英语商务知识抢答赛等活动,既丰富学生课外生活,又抓住了学生的课余时间巧补英语知识,特别是ESP知识。另外,也可以联合学生会、学生社团在周末播放英语原声电影,寓教于乐。

4.进一步推进ESP的教研教改

高职高专院校有着自己的特色办学专业,随着经济全球化的不断深入,开设特色专业ESP课程呈欣欣向荣之势。特色专业的ESP课程与商务英语专门知识必然有着千丝万缕的关系,间接地提高了学生的商务英语能力。

5.A级考试复习时商英知识的串讲

A级复习时,教师可以讲A级考试大纲与常考题型进行总结,对商务英语知识分门别类地归纳。例如,A级听力题型中常考的订房间、更改行程、更改订单、签订合同、建立贸易关系等高频词汇进行归纳总结,学生在考试时听到这些高频词汇能够更加快速准确地选出最佳答案。

要想在A级考试中合格,学生一方面要具备相应的英语听、说、读、写能力,另一方面也不能忽视商务英语专门知识的掌握。加强师资队伍建设、活跃课堂气氛,激发学生兴趣、根据教学大纲重新规划授课学时与教学内容、进一步推进ESP的教研教改、大学英语A级考试时商务英语知识的串讲对于解决教师ESP知识局限性、学生缺乏学习热情、公共英语课程学时不够、高校学生专业限制等问题的解决有一定成效。教师应在教学中及时发现和解决问题。A级考试过级水平的提高还有很长一段路要走,师生不能只看重过级率这一数值,更应该切实提高学生的英语水平,这样才能为学生在走出大学校门后,在工作中独当一面地处理实际问题创造基本前提。

常见的解题技巧

听力考试第一步要做的事就是扫视材料, 预测内容。当广播中朗读听力要求时, 我们要充分利用这个时间, 迅速扫视书面文字中的题干及选项, 通过扫视联系上下文, 有根据地预测文段发生的时间、场所、人物, 并预测出谈话的大致内容。并且, 在扫视中我们对提出的问题尤其要注意。这样做的结果是听录音时我们可以有的放矢, 做到有备而来, 心中有数。也消除紧张情绪。Section A中的对话比较简短, 有时能从听到的内容中找到与选择项内容完全相同的部分, 但有些情况下, 往往不能找到, 即对话中一般没有现成的答案。因此, 在听的时候要注意抓住选择项的同义或反义词 (组) 用辨别法答题, 或根据对话内容采用归纳、推论或辨别的方法回答。另外要学会取舍, 抓住关键词, 理解内容。听力考试中最忌讳的就是词词计较, 力求听懂所有词。其实, 没必要听懂所有词, 也不可能听懂所有词。我们在日常生活中听中文时, 无论听什么, 注意力都不会在每一个字或词上面, 而是对文段或对话内容的整体的理解上。何况我们听的是英文, 在英文句子中, 对不同的词本身就有弱读和重读。关键词一般是动词、名词、形容词、副词等实义词及相互的短语, 还要注意but, though等表示转折含义的虚词。以下为近年考试真题。

W:Tim, could you type the report again?

对话中“Could you type the report again?” (你能把这份报告再打一遍吗?) , 句中关键词为type, 这句话直接地表明要打印而不是去写、读、核对这个报告, 很显然B是正确答案。

W:Oh, I forgot to tell you he had put off his trip.

Q:What do we knowabout Doctor Black?

A) He has changed his trip. B) He has canceled his trip.

对话中“he had put off his trip.”中的关键词语put off意为延期。与答案中change意思接近, 而cancel意为取消, 故A为正确答案。

本句关键词change-food-restaurant可推断出他们是要改变一下吃饭的习惯, 去餐馆就餐。D为正确答案。不可能为了吃顿饭跑到日本去。

二、Section B

Section B听长对话并回答2—3个问题, 读两遍。本部分被学生认为是最简单的拿分题, 因为大部分答案都能从原稿中直接获得。所涉及的问题与Section A相似, 只不过对话长了些, 问题多了些。答题技巧与上面A部分也相同。但要注意的是:对话中细节较多, 所以只靠脑子记忆确实有困难。我们在做长对话听力时可以做一些简单的记录, 这种记录要非常简练, 要记重要环节。如文中提及的人物、事件、时间、地点、原因、方式、程度、数字、选择等信息都非常重要。笔记要提纲挈领, 达到帮助记忆、推断和答题的目的即可。记录的方法多种多样, 可以使用符号、画图、缩写形式等, 只要自己能辨认就可以了。

三、Section C

Section C听短文以填空形式回答五个问题, 每空不超过三个单词, 读两遍。问题给出, 答案也给了部分提示, 而且提示部分大多数是从原文中节选下来的, 类似于missing words。答题技巧为:先读懂5个问题, 了解本段话涉及的大致内容, 然后看着答案部分去听, 错过那些与答案不相关的信息。补全答案中缺少的词语。下面是2003年12月真题。
