Almost all cultures celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in some way.Different cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year in different ways, and at different times on the calendar.

Chinese New Year is an important traditional Chinese holiday celebrated at the turn of the Chinese calendar. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. In Western countries, people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st or January 1st. 一、引言

教学的目的决定了教师在课堂上采用哪一种教学方法。例如,口语课教学目的是提高学生的交际能力,所以主要是使用交际教学法。而精读课教学的目的是学生需要理解词汇,句子以及各段落的涵义;分析整篇文章的结构等。

教师所使用的应该是多种教学方法相结合以及精心的课堂设计和教学环节。

二、精读的教学法

对于大学英语精读课,教师需结合多种教学法应用到教学实践中,比较常用的教学法有交际教学法、直接教学法、社团语言学习法、语法翻译法、暗示教学法等。

1.交际教学法。语言学和语言教学是截然不同的,但不可否认语言学对语言教学有很深的影响,同时语言教学在很大程度上取决于教师怎么看待语言。交际学派认为,语 言教学的目的是培养学生使用目的语进行交际能力,语言教学的内容不仅要包括语言结构,还要包括表达各种意念和功能的常用结构。所以交际教学法和语言学的理论联系在一起,强调语义和交际的因素而不仅仅是语言的语法特点,这就要求教师根据语言涵义和功能的种类而不仅仅是语法和结构的因素来组织具体的语言教学内容。

随着第二语言教学法领域的发展,成熟,语言教学法也经历了不断的变化。由于越来越多的教师和学生认识到了交际能力的重要性,现阶段交际教学法也日趋受到重视。交际教学法实际上一个是知识和技能的复杂系统,它包括语法纠正、接受能力、合适度还有实践操作等方面。著名英语教育专家William Littlewood曾经指出:“one of the most Characteristic features of communicative language teaching is that it pays systematic attention to functional as well as structural aspects of language.”

2.直接教学法。直接教学法就是将语言学习情境转为语言学习应用,并训练学习者放弃母语作为参考的框架。要求教师在外语教学中,使每一个词语同它所代表的事物或意义直接联系,不经过母语翻译。这样做,可以使学生尽快丢掉“心译”直接用外语思维。课本是基础,相应地辅以图片和物体展示,强调的是问题、回答, 口头叙事,听写,模仿等课堂活动以及由此产生的大量新的语法练习。

作为面对大学生的英语精读课,教师会尽可能地创造英语语言的环境氛围,如教师会尝试用英语解释而不是翻译成中文,同时也鼓励学生在课堂上用英语思考和发言。

3.社团语言学习法。社团语言学习法又称咨询法(Counseling Learning),是由古兰创立的。它的特点就是在课堂上重新定义教师的角色为顾问,辅助者,学生是当事人,也被称之为人性化教学。

教师应该在教学材料的设计上具体表现出这种人性化的想法。这种教学法典型的教学活动就是人际关系间的交流。教师作为顾问给予学生建议,辅助,和支持。通过社团语言学习法,带着问题学习的学生在顾问的指导下解决了问题,而教师对教学材料则会更加熟悉。

4.语法翻译教学法。语法翻译法,其最简单的定义为:用母语教授外语的一种方法。尽管语法翻译教学法现在似乎显得过时,但在某种类型的课上仍然有它的应用价值,譬如英语精读课。课堂上教师会尽可能地如直接教学法所建议的用英语解释一切,但学生的英语水平使得教师会用到过时但有效的语法翻译法。例如,当教师想要解释几个语言点时,如果用中文解释会更清楚,而不至于使学生感到混淆不清。

5.暗示教学法。暗示教学法建议的是这样的一种语言观,词汇是中心,强调的是词汇翻译而不是语境化。暗示是暗示教学法的重点,它认为想象力和放松、舒服的学习氛围对学生的学习有很大的帮助。教师可以用这种教学法激发学生,当学生遇到课文不认识的新单词时,教师不会即刻告诉他们意思,而是列举此单词几种用法的例子让学生去猜它的意思,以此来激发学生的想象力和学习英语的兴趣。

三、大学英语精读课的课程设计和教学过程

怎样上好一堂大学英语精读课,教师所使用的应该是多种教学方法相结合以及精心的课堂设计和教学环节。

1.课堂设计。英语教师准备教授一门课时,他需要了解教授的对象—学生的情况,年龄,学了多久英语,学了多少英语等,所有这些情况都会决定课堂的设计。既然我们讨论的是大学英语精读,那么教授对象就是大学生,教师根据大学生的年龄,英语水平,课程大纲要求设计一系列的课堂活动。

大学英语精读课的课堂活动主要用交际教学法。在交际教学法里,学生是焦点,教师会组织一些学生为中心的课堂活动。例如,教师在讲解课文之前,会要求学生阐述关于课文标题等方面的见解,教师也会给出几个课前问题让学生思考课文标题和课文内容的深层意义。通过这类的课堂活动来增强学生的语言交际能力。

交际型的课堂活动,虽然是以学生为主,但并不意味着教师就是被动的,只是改变了传统教学的角色,从导师变成了辅助者和组织者。在课堂活动期间,教师实际也参与其中,首先教师要把整个班分成几个小组,组织全班的课堂活动。其次,教师是辅助者,当学生提出问题时,帮助学生解决问题。

2.教学环节。不管教学目的,设置,教学实施的规模如何,第二语言的教授都要求教师考虑到教学环节是教学策略应用的重要因素。教学环节不仅仅是包含教师的教学目的,教学策略,而且是激发学生有意识或下意识地使用正确的学习策略的过程。

(1)课前准备。课前教师要求学生使用事前准备,选择性注意,事先练习等元认知策略预习课文。预习后学生对课文内容,课文的深层意义有了大概的了解。同时他们也知道上课时应该更专心听课文的哪一部分。

(2)课堂。课堂上,教师会鼓励学生使用认知和情感层面的学习策略。首先,给出几个课前阅读的问题让学生分成小组讨论,问题可以是关于题目的、课文的深层含义、文章暗示的意义、又或者是学生对课文的理解等。建议学生使用团体合作的学习策略,这也是社团语言学习法的具体体现。其次,课前活动环节结束后,教师提供课文相关的背景知识,如作者的资料,写作背景,历史文化地理知识等,然后给学生发言的机会补充。接着教师就是详细讲解课文,在讲解这部分并不意味着学生就充当被动的聆听者,教师也可以激发学生成为活跃的自觉学习者。例如,在讲解词汇时,鼓励学生用推理的学习策略,就是给出新单词的几个用法,让学生猜单词的意思。对于课文中出现的较难的句子,教师会要求学生首先尝试用英语意译难点句而不是直接翻译成中文,如必要的话,教师会使用语法翻译教学法来解析疑难。教师的目的并不仅仅是告知学生课文的字面意思,还要进一步要求学生掌握课文的结构,理解课文的深层意义包括文化内涵,社会意义等。

(3)课后。教师布置几个课后问题提供给学生课后思考,并提醒学生运用提问的学习策略来提出若干问题而教师则作进一步的解析。

怎样运用大学英语精读课教学策略实际是没有统一的做法,但在关于第二语言习得和语言教学策略的理论指导下,经过不断的教学实践,修正,相信大学英语精读课的质量会不断地提高。
